News from the GFWC Ronan Women’s Club

RONAN — The 2014 General Federation of Women’s Club of Montana Biennial Convention, attended by 59 club members from across the state, was held in Helena April 25-26.

Joyce Rogers, Adina Fox, Connie Romero, Diane Grant, Anne Loveless and Patti Mocabee of the GFWC Ronan Women’s Club attended the meetings.

The club delegates, including members of the Board of Directors, enjoyed a full slate of meetings and reports. A couple highlights of the general session on Saturday were a special memorial service, “It Only Takes a Spark,” presented by Ann Kuehn, and the announcement of the 2014 LEADS (Leadership, Education and Development Seminar) Candidate, Robin Pittsley of GFWC Billings Junior Woman’s Club, who will attend the LEADS seminar held during the GFWC International Convention in Chandler, Ariz. this coming June.

At Saturday’s luncheon, GFWC of Montana President’s Special Project Chairman Adina Fox announced the results of President Nancy Hanford’s two-year statewide fundraising project. Christie Briggs of the Montana Talking Book was excited to learn that GFWC of Montana clubs had worked together to raise more than $13,000, exceeding the $10,000 goal that had been pledged to the MTBL for updating recording equipment and new Montana-themed book purchases.

Briggs was the guest speaker at the luncheon and thanked the members for the donation and for making the public more aware of the materials available at The Montana Talking Book Library. The library has increased its number of patrons by 29 percent during the last two years and credits the GFWC of Montana project for this increase.

Saturday evening’s banquet featured the installation of state and district officers by International President Mary Ellen Laister. The 2014-2016 officers are President, Joyce Rogers; President-elect, Joyce Hooper; First Vice-president, Joyce DeCunzo; Treasurer, Nancy Hanford; Recording Secretary, Florence Diede.

Also appointed to the Executive Committee for 2014-2016 were Shirley Weisgerber, Corresponding Secretary; Adina Fox, Budget and Finance Chairman; and Vurnie Kaye Barnett, Parliamentary Advisor.

Roger’s President’s Special Project goal for the coming administration is to raise funds for the purchase of home heart monitors to be used by cardiac patients across Montana.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
