RONAN — Three new members of the Ronan School Board were set to be sworn in on Monday as the Valley Journal went to press. Results were still unofficial as of Monday morning.
Challengers beat all incumbent members on the ballot, including longtime member and board chairman Mark Clary.
Three candidates vied for two seats in district 30-2. Bob Cornwell and Rich Janssen, Jr. secured the seats with 649 and 679 votes respectively. Clary received 454 votes. Cornwell and Janssen will serve three years.
In district 30-1 four candidates competed for a single seat.
Mark Cheff won the position with 101 votes. Incumbent Carmel Couture received 32 votes. Francine Dupuis and Adam Wood tied with 28 votes each.
District 30-2 saw a 38.1 percent voter turnout in the election and district 30-1 had 24.5 percent participation.
This is on par with the 36.8 percent turnout seen in district 30-2’s 2013 election, but significantly less than turnout in 2012. The 2012 school board election saw a 15.3 percent turnout in district 30-1.
