Democrat Bud Koppy, Kila, and Republican Greg Hertz, Polson, are facing off for the House District 11 seat.
Hertz explained he’s running as a lifelong Montanan who really cares about our state.
“We need to concentrate on the future and make Montana a better place,” he said.
Koppy said he is running because no one else was running for the Democratic Party. Waiting until the last day, Koppy said when no one else filed, he did, “just to make that guy (Hertz) work for it.”
Koppy and Hertz both listed jobs as their top issue to address if they are elected to the legislature.
Next on Koppy’s list is opening up all roads for recreation — Forest Service, Plum Creek or state land — unless there are cattle on the land.
Hertz would like to see greater development of Montana’s natural resources in a responsible manner.
As a third issue, Hertz would like to make sure government is operating efficiently. Koppy is concerned with Montana Fish and Game; he thinks the department is out of control and needs oversight since they write tickets for minor infractions.
“I don’t think a Democrat has been elected in 40 years (in this district),” Koppy said, adding that it can be done.
