Memorial Day remembrances set around Lake County

LAKE COUNTY — Memorial Day was established to remember those who died while serving in the Armed Forces. The day of remembrance, first known as Decoration Day, originated after the Civil War to honor fallen Union and Confederate Soldiers; by the 20th century, Memorial Day was extended to include all who have died in military service. 

The following remembrance services will take place Monday, May 26 in Lake County:

Arlee

10 a.m. – Mission Valley Honor Guard will post colors at Arlee Jocko Cemetery at the flag in middle of the Jocko Cemetery.

St. Ignatius

11 a.m. – Mission Valley Honor Guard will post colors at Pleasant View Cemetery at the flag pole in the front of the cemetery.

11:30 a.m. – Mission Valley Honor Guard will post colors at at the Catholic Cemetery at the flag pole, following the presentation at Pleasant View. Time is approximate.

Noon – Right after the honoring, dinner will be served at the Community Center for all veterans and their families.

Polson

10 a.m. Polson Parade followed by a ceremony at First Citizens Bank, with Military Honors following at Lake View Cemetery.

Ronan

Noon – Ronan Parade with a ceremony at the Gold Star Mothers Memorial in Bockman Park, followed by a service with Military Honors at the Ronan Cemetery.

1 p.m. – Dinner will be served at the Ronan VFW, 35981 Round Butte Road. 

Charlo

3 p.m. – Ceremony with Military Honors at Ninepipes Lodge.

4-6 p.m. – Allentown Restaurant is serving a free dinner to veterans featuring barbecued brisket, salads and desserts. The dinner is priced at $8 for non-veterans. Stuart Morton, the owner of Ninepipes Lodge, is donating all the proceeds of the dinner to the local Honor Guard chapters.
