POLSON — Chanting “spray us, spray us,” Linderman Elementary School students capped off their Pirates Pledge 4 Playground walk-a-thon on May 25 with a good sprinkling from the Polson Fire Department.

It was a warm Friday afternoon, and Rich Forbis and the Anderson Broadcasting truck was playing music loud as students at Linderman Elementary School, parents, grandparents and friends strolled around the track.

Three laps made a mile, according to Brittany Simonich, a teacher at Linderman, and students had asked relatives and friends for pledges, either for individual laps or for a flat donation. The fundraiser              combined good exercise with raising money for new playground equipment at Linderman.

The Parents and Teachers group was also hoping community members would come walk and donate to the cause.

Each classroom teacher had a different theme — Mr. Brookman’s class was “Get Up and Glow” and they sported neon shirts; Mrs. Wilson’s class were sports athletes; and Mrs. Nordberg’s class were the Chicks, since they recently hatched chicks in their class.

Kids were urged to drink water and at the end of the 1 to 3 p.m. event, they each got a popsicle, plus they helped raised money for the playground.

After polling parents, children and teachers about what would improve the Linderman playground, Simonich said, “We would like some swings.”
