GREAT FALLS – The Maidens faced tough Class B-C teams from around the state, each hungry for wins, posing stiff competition for Ronan last week at the B-C State softball tournament in Great Falls. In the double elimination tournament, the Maidens played three games, going 1-2.
In Thursday’s opener against Glasgow, the Maidens held the lead until the seventh inning when Glasgow pulled the rug from under the Maidens feet and put up three runs to cap the lead. The Maidens were unable to recover in their final at bat and fell to Glasgow, 6-8. Pitcher Alaina Madsen threw eight strikeouts from the circle, but walks plagued the senior. Madsen took the loss after throwing all seven innings. Madsen shined at the plate, going 3-4 with a double while Kaitlyn Sassaman and Amanda Morency each batted in two.
Facing elimination, the Maidens put up 13 hits against Stillwater to secure themselves another game, winning 7-6 after eight innings of play. Alison Roberts led her team in RBIs bringing in three after going 3-5 at the plate. Sassaman added two runs batted in and a double while Madsen went 3-4 with a couple of doubles.
In game three, also played on Friday, the Maidens toughed out their final game of the year but fell to Plains-Hot Springs, 6-10. Sassaman led the Maidens going 2-4 with two RBIs.
The Maidens finish their year with a strong and respectable 18-5 overall season record.
