PABLO – To welcome nursing graduates into the nursing profession, the Salish Kootenai College Nursing Department held a pinning ceremony on Friday, June 6.

Emily Colomeda, head of the Lake County Public Health Service and an SKC nursing graduate, spoke to the students.

Although nursing is more demanding than ever, Colomeda asked the students “to make a commitment to life long learning, to be an advocate for yourself, the community and your profession and cultivate your inner leader.”

With a nursing shortage predicted until 2020, Colomeda urged the class of 2014 “to step up and lead the way.”

Colomeda said she wouldn’t be doing her public health duty is she didn’t ask them to celebrate responsibly and always buckle up.

Baccalaureate Degree nursing graduates are wrapped in a Pendleton blanket by the designee of the graduate’s choice.

Piper Adams, 3, accompanied by her grandfather, placed the blanket on her Grandmother Merle “Kit” Adams’ arm and was so excited.

For Associate Degree nursing graduates, a family member or members attached their nursing pin.

Graduates held candles and recited the Nightingale Pledge to end the ceremony and then went to a reception held in the Camas Room of the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center.

All smiles, graduate Ali Sibert said she was excited to be finished.

BSN graduates were:

Merle Adams, Christine Cullen, Hannah Gilliland, Nikki Grimwood, Jamie Lozeau, Terinee McCreedy, Roquel Pepion, Geofrey Rohrlach, Heather Schildt and Rayola Upham.

Elise Bennett, Myranda Burns, Michael Denny, Corinne Franklin, Timothy Gauthier, Heather Harbin, Susan Harlan, Darwin Hensley, Susan Hensley, Valerie Johnson, Ellen Kaphammer,
