News from the City of Polson

POLSON — It has come to our attention that there are concerns about the boat launch opportunities over the Fourth of July holiday. One of our local businesses is offering a free concert to the community, and we have made some minor adjustments to the boat launch area to account for this. We have done our best to accommodate for the concert, while trying to minimize the affect to our boaters.

Riverside Park boat launch is in fact closed on July 4. This launch has been closed for the past four years and the closure is based solely on safety concerns. The number of people and children using the park and swimming area on this day each year is much higher than an average summer day or weekend even. We certainly apologize for the inconvenience, but we want to ensure safety of our community. The Riverside Park boat launch will be re-opened on July 5.

To address the Salish Point boat launch, that launch will be fully open and operational on the 4th of July. The only portion that will be closed off is the gravel parking area west of the launch, and the road leading up the hill on the side of the park (Salish-Kootenai-Pend Orielle Loop Road). The gravel area can typically hold approximately 10 truck/trailers, and parking is not allowed on the hill. So we are in effect going to be affecting only 10 people who could have otherwise parked their trucks/trailers in the gravel area for the day.

Anderson Radio is also currently researching shuttle service opportunities for the boat launch area. Due to limited parking in the boat launch areas, our boaters have always been challenged with finding safe and large enough parking spaces for the truck/trailer units. Boaters can watch Anderson Radio website and the City of Polson website for more information on details of potential shuttle service as we get closer to the holiday. Our boaters are important to the City and our intentions are certainly not aimed at inhibiting this recreational activity in our community. We hope this free concert will be successful and appreciated by many people who enjoy spending time in the park with family and friends on this holiday. We have tried our best to limit the hassle to boaters while being able to offer this entertainment opportunity to non-boaters.

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July.
