Let’s talk about Clara Sipe, another valuable, contributing member of our Polson Senior Center. After putting in 30 years with the Forest Service, she began teaching AARP safe driving classes in Lolo. In 1987 she moved to the Polson area where she approached the center about teaching the class here.
In the process she got recruited to take over the office/nutrition director job plus teaching. She did that job for ten years and was elected as the president. She was re-elected and served in that position from 1997-2004. Later she was elected for another three years. She helped deliver meals and even filled in as cook occasionally. She drove the bus also.
She served as the secretary/treasurer here and also for the Lake County Council on Aging in Ronan. She was always on hand to help with our pancake suppers.
Lake trout tremble at the mention of her name and her fish fries are a special treat.
Incidentally, Clara will be celebrating her octogenarian-something birthday at the Polson Senior Center during the Friday birthday dinner on July 27 at 11:45 a.m. Please RSVP if you are not a regular to help the cooks plan. Cake and ice cream will follow the meal.
The lunch menu for the coming week will feature:
• Thursday, June 26: Polish dog deluxe
• Friday, June 27: roast pork, whipped potatoes, birthday dinner
• Monday, 30: taco salad in tortilla bowls
• Tuesday, July 1: vegetable soup and sandwich
• Wednesday, July 2: sausage gravy and biscuits
Have a good week.
