POLSON — Mission junior Adessa Durglo was a triple threat at the Lake County Invitational Thursday.

Durglo swept the jumping events at the Polson Sports Complex to boost RSI to third place with 55 points.

Durglo jumped 15 feet, 3.5 inches to win the high jump, 33 feet, 5.5 inches in the triple jump and 5 foot, 1 inch to win the high jump. Durglo’s high jump was a new St. Ignatius record; breaking the 5-foot mark she shared with 2009 graduate Kelsey Cable and teammate Jenny Larsson. Durglo now owns the school record in the triple jump and high jump and has her sights on the long jump record.

Larsson finished right behind Durglo in the high jump Thursday with a jump of 4 feet, 8 inches. Larsson also finished in third in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 100 feet, 5 inches. Larsson previous best throw was 93 feet, 10 inches. The sophomore’s throw Thursday moved her a lot closer to the Mission record of 103 feet, 8 inches held by her older sister Lisa.

Christina Williams finished in third in the 800 with a time of 2:39.04 and Twyla Hogge finished in sixth in the discus with a throw of 89 feet, 1 inch. Both season bests for the two.

Spurred on by four second place finishes, the RSI boys finished in third, 11 points ahead of Arlee. Marcus Hungerford finished second in the 800-meter run (2:10.58) and second in the high jump (5-8).

Jordan Franklin was runnerup in the 100-meter dash, finishing a  hundredth of second behind Charlo’s Chico Stipe. Franklin placed in four events finishing in third in the high jump and triple jump. He finished fourth in the 110 hurdles.

Toby Cheff finished second in the javelin with a throw of 145 feet, 9 inches and fifth in the discus with a throw of 105, 11 inches.

RSI boys’ coach Noelle Decker said after missing a lot of practices and meets at the start of the season because of wrestling, Cheff is coming on strong. Decker said that in previous years, wrestling has kept Cheff from giving track his full attention, but that’s changed this year.

“He’s never been able to make that full commitment. This year he’s made the commitment,” Decker said.

Gui Silva finished in third in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best time of 44.35 seconds.

“(Silva) was relieved to finally break 45 seconds in the 300 hurdles. He has focused on this event all season, so I was happy for him. I am hoping he can sneak into the top five and make it to state in this event,” Decker said.

Cody Johnson finished in fourth in the 400 (56.97). He also ran a leg on the third-place, mile-relay team. Johnson, Hungerford, Riley Dennis and Austin Durglo finished in 3:51.06.

The RSI track team will compete at the ABC meet in Polson Saturday.
