POLSON — The Polson Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Bob Mazurek provided some lunch music for the Polson Kiwanis on April 29.

Mazurek and his students came to thank Kiwanis for a $1,000 check to be used to buy instruments and music for the program. Kiwanis member Janet Vail chipped in $500, and Kiwanis matched her donation.

Mazurek has 135 kids in the PMS program, and Polson High School has 70 or 80 students in band. When Mazurek first came to Polson in 1980, he had 42 students in band at the high school level and 22 of those kids played the flute so things have changed for the better.

“(Polson schools) have an active and vital band and choir,” Mazurek said.

Mazurek thanked the Kiwanians for being part of the small group of people who make towns run.

Also receiving money from Kiwanis was the Boys and Girls Club. Director John Schnase thanked the Kiwanians for the $520 check and said it would be used for swimming pool covers.

Schnase said the swimming pools at the BGC “were whipped up to a froth” in the summertime. The BCG top attendance day last summer was 152 kids, Schnase said.

The Kiwanis Club meets weekly at noon on Thursdays at noon at the KwaTaqNuk Resort and Casino.

The Kiwanis Club is always looking for new members.
