MISSOULA — Polson’s ASA 10U Lil’ Lakers finished their regular summer softball season with a runner-up finish at the state tournament in Missoula last weekend.

Twenty teams from the around the state of Montana participated in the tournament.

The Lil’ Lakers defeated the Great Falls Big Sky Blitz and Great Falls

Select Green before dropping an extra-inning decision to the Missoula Avalanche. That dropped them into the loser bracket with the task of winning five games on Sunday to win the state title. They began play at 10 a.m. on Sunday and finished that night at 7:30 p.m. with no more than a 15-minute break between games. The Polson team defeated the Electric City Heat, Kalispell Emeralds, and Bozeman Stealers to earn their way into the championship game against the Missoula Avalanche. There they downed the Avalanche 13-5 to force a second championship game.  Having only played two games on Sunday, the much fresher Avalanche team prevailed in that one.

The 10U Lil’ Lakers finished the tournament with a 6-2 record, pushing their season record to 31-5.

The Lil’ Lakers qualified for the ASA regional championships in Spokane on July 18-20.
