Democrats discuss crime, jail
POLSON — Lake County Democrats will host an informational program at the North Lake County Library on Wednesday, Jan. 31. There will be a social gathering at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Lake County Attorney, Steve Eschenbacher, and Sheriff Don Bell will be on hand to discuss the issues involving crime which are confronting Law Enforcement Officers and the Lake County Attorney’s Office. According to a recent newspaper article, 60 people were released from jail in a three-week period because of lack of space. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Free meditation class taught
POLSON — A Zen Meditation Class is offered at the YogaHeart Studio, 314 Main Street, on Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 6-8 p.m. (note earlier time). The classes are presented by Zen Priest Zenku, Jerry Smyers. There is no charge for the class. Everyone is welcome. For more details call 847-721-0665.
Mission Valley Has Talent needs you
POLSON — Mission Valley Has Talent competition is scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, March 9, at the Polson High School Auditorium. Jan. 31 is the deadline to register for the competition. Pick up registration forms at valley churches, banks, schools, senior centers or download from the Mission Valley Has Talent Facebook page. Top talent for the March 9 Mission Valley Has Talent competition could win $500 for first place, $300 for second or $200 for third. This event is a fundraiser for the Helping Hands Fund, a non-profit ministry of the Mission Valley Ministerial Association. ‘Old Find New Discovery’ art show at Sandpiper through Feb. 23
POLSON — The Sandpiper Art and Gift Gallery begins 2018 with a fundraising campaign with a twist. This will be a non-juried open show until Feb. 23. Our members will donate some of their favorite works by other artists for resale at reduced prices. Discover lots of fine local art at great prices.
Adopt-a-Book at North Lake County Library
POLSON — To celebrate February being “I Love to Read Month,” North Lake County Public Library District is offering its annual Adopt-a-Book program. During the month of February, you may “adopt” a children’s book and present it to the library’s collection. You can purchase a book to honor or remember a special person or event, or your love of reading. Each book is $15. After a book is purchased, a plaque will be inscribed and placed inside. Lipscomb speaks to Kiwanis about dam
POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club will meet on Thursday, Feb. 1, at noon at the KwaTaqNuk downstairs. Our speaker will be Bryan Lipscomb, president and CEO of Energy Keepers, Inc., the tribal corporation that managed the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes’ acquisition of Kerr Dam from 2012-2015. Brian will give us an update on the dam. The public is welcome to attend our meeting.

POLSON — North Lake County Public Library’s Story Time for 3-5 year olds, their siblings and their caregivers takes place from 10-11 a.m. or from 4-5 p.m. on Thursdays. The story, “The Groundhog Awakes,” will be read on Feb. 1. The library is located at 2 First Ave. E.
View quilts at Polson businesses through Feb. 24
POLSON — Join us for All In Stitches’ 17th annual Walk Around Polson Quilt Show. Quilts will hang in businesses on Main Street from Saturday, Feb. 10, through Saturday, Feb. 24. Plan some time to pick up a ballot at All In Stitches and walk around Polson to vote on your favorite quilts by Feb. 21. Ribbons will be hung Feb. 22. If you’d like to participate in this year’s show, please drop off your quilts by Feb. 7 at the shop. Service dogs to be discussed at Pachyderm meeting
POLSON – All are invited to the Pachyderm meeting on Friday, March 9 from 12-1 p.m. at the Polson Rural fire department off Regatta Rd. Janet Austin will provide training on levels of working dog classification from Federal ADA and FAA laws about who can bring service animals into public settings and businesses. A real life story will be shared about Bill and his faithful dog JP and how they came to be a team plus information and resources on how to obtain a service dog.
Sheriff to discuss jail changes
POLSON — A Polson Pachyderm meeting will be held on Feb. 9 from noon - 1 p.m. at Polson Rural Fire Department off Regatta Road. Sheriff Don Bell will speak about the work being done to implement NIC assessment recommendations and lower the overcrowding in the Lake County Jail.

Join multi-faith event, explore commonalities
POLSON — Around the world, people are more similar than they are different and religious beliefs also have common threads. Join Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition as we explore the commonalities and differences of some of the world’s major faiths at Fellowship Hall of Polson United Methodist Church, 301 Sixteenth Ave. E. from 2-4 p.m. Humanities Montana speaker, Samir Bitar, will join leaders of Montana’s Baha’I, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Jewish faiths, asking questions of one another and answering audience questions.
