‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

Sandpiper opens new exhibit through June 25

POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery, 306 Main Street, Polson, presents “Montana West of the Mountains.” This exhibit will be the best images of everything we love about Montana and features member artists Antonia Wolf (photography), Sue Arneson (watercolor), Marie Stockhill (pottery), and guest artists Mike and Belinda Williams (photography) and jeweler Donna Miller. The exhibit continues until June 25. The Gallery is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Join rock skipping contest

POLSON — The 2017 Flathead Lake Rock Skipping Championship will crown a new record holder on Saturday, June 3, at the Riverside Park Dock in Polson. The event showcases finesse, touch and fun. Bring Your Own Rocks (B.Y.O.R.) to this exciting event and bound on down to Polson for skipping and laughs. Registration begins Saturday, June 3, at 9 a.m. at the Cove Deli and Pizza. Registration costs $10 each or $40 for the whole family. There are two categories per gender: 12 and under, and 13 and up. The contest begins at 10 a.m. and finishes around at 11 a.m. when awards are given and the state record is bestowed. Then it’s up to the Cove Deli and Pizza where all participants receive free pizza. St. Joe’s holds charity golf tourney

POLSON — Providence St. Joseph Medical Center’s Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 3. POLSON — Come learn and earn $20 worth of double SNAP dollars to spend on locally grown produce, seeds, meat, eggs, bread, and garden plants at the Polson Farmers Market, for those that qualify. Fundraiser event held

POLSON — Lake County Search and Rescue will hold a fundraising event with an ATV, UTV, and Dirt Bike Poker Run on Saturday, June 10. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Buffalo Bridge and ends at Sloan Bridge. After the event there will be a barbecue dinner back at Buffalo Bridge. Pre-registration will take place Friday, June 9, from 6-8 p.m. at the VFW in Polson. Late registration starts at 8 a.m. June 10. Registration fees are $35 for the first poker hand and a T-shirt; $10 for additional hands. Additional T-shirts will be available to purchase: $15 for children and $18 for adults. LAKE COUNTY — The Flathead Reservation and Lake County Boys and Girls Club will operate a summer program at both their Polson and Ronan sites Monday-Friday (not July 4) from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. The cost is $25 per month or $75 for the entire summer program, which runs June 12-Aug. 18. The summer program focuses on academics, good character and citizenship and developing healthy lifestyles. Applications may be picked up onsite or at: www.flatheadbgc. org.

Cherry Valley serves breakfast, lunch

POLSON — Monday, June 12, is the first day of the free breakfast and lunch Summer Food Service Program in Polson. Cherry Valley, 107 Eighth Ave. W, is the site for the program. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m.-1:15 p.m., Monday-Friday. All children 18 years old and under eat for free. Lunches are available for adults for a fee. All kids can come enjoy food in a safe, fun, healthy environment. The program ends on Friday, Aug. 4.

Sign-up for Polson Youth Basketball, Volleyball Summer Camps POLSON — Polson Youth Basketball and Volleyball Summer Camps, sponsored by the head girls’ basketball and volleyball coaching staffs and current high school players, will be held for grades 2-8, Monday-Wednesday, June 12-14, at Linderman Elementary School.
