Enter Cherry Cook-off
POLSON — Consider cherries jubilee, cherry-limeade, cherry bourbon ice cream, grilled trout with cherry salsa, cherry-rosemary sea salt focaccia, and who could forget cherry pie? It’s time to dig through your recipe box to find your best recipe featuring Montana cherries. In conjunction with the Montana Cherry Symposium on Sept. 14 at the KwaTaqNuk the Montana Cherry Advisory Committee will host a Cherry Cook-Off. If you are interested in entering the Cherry Cook-Off, registration forms can be found online at: www.agr. mt.gov/agr/producer/checkoff/ cherries. Recipes should be original, creative, and easy to prepare. All submissions should be sent to the Montana Department of Agriculture by Friday, July 15. After the deadline, entries will be screened and eight will be chosen to participate in the live cook-off on Sept. 14. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three chefs, as well as one People’s Choice award winner.

Cherry Festival happening on Main Street
POLSON — Polson Main Street Flathead Cherry Festival will be held Saturday, July 16, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, July 17, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Come enjoy the great selection of vendors, Flathead Cherries, homemade cherry pies, cherry quilts on display in store windows, unique arts and crafts, entertainment, sidewalk sales and specials all weekend long. Run, support the Boys and Girls Club
POLSON — The Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County will sponsor the third annual Polson Mud Run on Saturday, July 16, at 9 a.m. (to open the Cherry Festival). This is a fun-filled, muddy, 5K obstacle course held at the Polson Fairgrounds. Registration can be found on flatheadbgc.org.

Estonian choir to present free concert in Polson
POLSON — The Polson community will have an opportunity to hear the accomplished Ellerhein Girls' Choir during a free concert on Monday, July 18, at 7 p.m. at the Polson High School auditorium. The choir from Tallinn, Estonia, is traveling to the United States to participate in the International Choral Festival in Missoula. The Ellerhein Choir members are young women ranging in age from 14-19 years old, and who perform both classical and contemporary choral music. The choir has won international competitions and was nominated for a Grammy in 2004.

Enjoy two evenings of Flathead Lake Blues Festival
POLSON — The sixth annual Flathead Lake Blues Festival will provide two evenings of great music on Friday, Aug. 19, and Saturday, Aug. 20. Friday’s music is from 6 p.m.-midnight, on Salish Point (on the shore of Polson Bay between Sacajawea Park and KwaTaqNuk Resort). Friday’s bands are: Robin Barrett and the Coyote Kings; The C.B. Woodbury Band; Polly O’Keary and the Rhythm Method; and Rand Oxford’s All Stars Slam! Tickets for both days are $40 in advance online or $50 at the gate or $20 for Friday only. POLSON — The Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Thursday of each month at the KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah Room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker this Thursday will be Gary Snow from the new company that will be making juice out of the Flathead Cherries. Everyone is welcome.
P.E.O.s invited to picnic lunch
POLSON — P.E.O. Mission Mountain Reciprocity Group invites all P.E.O. members to its annual brown bag lunch. The picnic will be held Thursday, July 21, at 11:30 a.m. at Boettcher Park. Use the “Old Nine” Polson Golf Course entrance to get to the covered picnic table area at the park. This event welcomes all P.E.O. members who may be visiting the area, as well as members from local Chapters AI, BS, BY and CA. Attendees are encouraged to bring guests along with their lunches and drinks. Dessert will be provided. P.E.O. is an international philanthropic education organization whose main mission is promoting educational opportunities for women.

Learn to grill vegetables
POLSON — Come learn and earn $20 worth of Fresh SNAP Double Dollars to be spent on locally grown produce at the Polson Farmer’s Market. All are welcome, including children, but only SNAP recipients will receive market credit. Learn techniques on grilling vegetables and make a fresh salad out of the SKC garden from 2-4 p.m. at the campus greenhouse. The extension team at 58138 Highway 93, Pablo, will teach the class. Pheasants, partridge seasons discussed
POLSON — The Flathead Reservation Fish and Wildlife Board will meet on Wednesday, July 27, at 6 p.m. at the Polson City Library. The agenda includes discussion of Pheasant and Hungarian Partridge seasons, waterfowl regulations, and State projects and accomplishments. Board Chairman Terry Tanner invites the public to attend and ask questions or express their views.
