‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

Nominate a business and/or a residence within the city limits of Polson by July 21, for recognition of their beautiful flower gardens. You can even nominate yourself. Fill out as many nomination forms as you wish with one nominee per form. Planning board invites public to work sessions

POLSON — The Polson City/County Planning Board is holding work a sessions to review draft changes to the Polson Development Code. The Monday, July 21, 6 p.m. meeting will consider non-conforming uses and lot coverage/impervious surface area. The Polson Development Code contains the zoning and subdivision regulations for the City of Polson and surrounding area. The public is invited to attend and participate in the meetings. Each meeting will be held in the Polson City Council chambers.

POLSON — PEOs will gather for a Reciprocity Brown Bag Picnic Lunch on Tuesday, July 22, at Boettcher Park in Polson.

The annual event begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m. at the covered table picnic area at the park. Use the Polson Golf Course entrance to get to Boettcher Park. Attendees are urged to bring guests along with their lunches. Drinks and dessert will be provided.

Cruise, dinner on Shadow to support MSU Foundation

POLSON — All MSU alums, families and friends are invited to participate on a lake cruise on board the “Shadow” on Friday, July 25. Rob Ash, MSU head football coach, will host the cruise. A buffet dinner will be served on the boat as well as a cash bar. Tickets are $40 per person or $100 per family. POLSON — The 22nd annual Flathead Lake 3-on-3 tournament will take place in downtown Polson on July 25, 26 and 27. Golf scramble, barbecue benefit scholarships

POLSON — The MSU Scholarship Golf Scramble and Barbecue will be held Saturday, July 26. The 18-hole golf scramble starts at 12:30 p.m. with a $125 fee per golfer or $500 per team. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. for $25 per person, (no charge for registered golfers and spouses). Reservations are required. Polson begins summer food program through Aug. 8

POLSON — The Summer Food Service Program will be held at the Cherry Valley Elementary School, 107 Eighth Ave. W from June 16-Aug. 8. This program provides free breakfast and lunch for all children age 18 and under, and will be served Monday through Friday. Barbecue, brews, boats gather at the lake

POLSON — The Polson Chamber’s sixth annual Smokin’ on the Water and the Brew Tour, take place at the KwaTaqNuk Resort on Aug. 2.

The one-day event combines freshly smoked barbecue with the sounds of live music and the opportunity to taste local brews. The barbecue is from 11 a.m.—6 p.m. and the local brew tour will go from 11 a.m.—8 p.m. Live music will play on the lawn all day with Smash Hit Carnival taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. This year, 10 of the dragon boats teams will paddle to Polson Bay as they prepare for the Montana Dragon Boat Festival on Sept. 13 and 14, in Bigfork.

Ingredients requested for Apple Pie Festival

POLSON — In anticipation of the Apple Pie Festival, Polson’s Immaculate Conception Parish is collecting sugar for making apple pies at weekend liturgies beginning this weekend and at every weekend liturgy in August. (Many thanks for last month’s flour donations.)

Join Water Daze celebration

POLSON — Join Mission Valley Aquatics on Saturday, Aug. 2, for the 12th annual Polson Bay’s Water Daze one-mile swim race from Salish Point to Boettcher Park. Proceeds from this year’s event will support our Lake Monsters Swim Team.

Registration opens at 11 a.m. at Boettcher Park. Swimmers are bussed to the KwaTaqNuk at 12:30 p.m. Race starts at 1 p.m.

A free kids’ swim race will also take place. Awards will be given. 

Race day packet pick-up will be at Boettcher Park from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Entry to the swim race is $25 or $30 on race day. For an application or more information, go to: www.mvaquatics.com.
