Polson Rural Fire Board meets to adopt budget
POLSON — The regular monthly meeting of the Polson Rural Fire District Board of Trustees will take place on Wednesday, August 8, at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Station No. 1 meeting room, 25-B Regatta Rd. The agenda will include adopting the FY 2018-2019 budget.
Walmart site of Safety Day activities
POLSON — On Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 3-7 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot, summer safety activities will take place. Car seat checks, fire extinguisher demonstrations (meet Smokey Bear), bicycle helmet fitting, gun locks, a life jacket raffle, breastfeeding information, safe sleep information and more will all take place during the Summer Safety Day event. Final day to turn in reading hours
POLSON — This is the final day, Friday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m., to turn in Family Summer Reading Program Reading Logs to the North Lake County Public Library in Polson.
Flathead Audubon goes to bat site
POLSON — Join Flathead Audubon on Friday, Aug. 10, from 8:30-11 p.m. for a cooperative field trip with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to go to a site with known bat activity. Electronic equipment will be used to detect the ultrasonic calls of bats flying overhead and mist nets will be used to capture bats for closer inspection. Wildlife biologists Lewis Young, Lisa Bate and Chris Hammond will demonstrate the equipment, handle bats captured in the mist nets and talk about the amazing adaptations bats have for navigating, catching food and hibernating. Participants will not be allowed to touch or handle the bats. Head lamps or flashlights are necessary and come with suitable clothing for the evening temperatures. Sought after group plays at Community Dance
POLSON — Cowboy Country and The Gold Dust Girls will perform at the Elks in Polson on Aug. 10 from 7-10 p.m. They will be playing a mix of classic country, old-style western, vintage rock and roll and blue grass music. This is an eight-piece band who we think you will really enjoy. Cover charge will be $5 per person. Drinks, soft drinks and bottled water will be available for purchase in the bar. Dress is casual. You really won’t want to miss this one.

POLSON — Day two of Polson’s Summerfest, Saturday, Aug. 11, includes a car show.
Sample chili at Riverside Park
POLSON — The 12th annual Rotary Chili Cook-off will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Riverside Park. Make sure you purchase your raffle tickets, which help raise funds for various children’s programs. Cash prize awards will be: $500 for first, $250 for second, and $100 for third place. An additional non-monetary prize will be given for the best decorated or themed booth. Anyone wishing to enter the Chili Cook-off Contest can find contest rules and an application form on the Polson Rotary website: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/1867. For more information call 406-883-1842. Taster kits will be sold to the general public for a fee of $3 per kit, 2 for $5. People’s choice ballots will be provided with each kit purchased and must be shown when requesting samples of contestant chili. Chili will be served until 2 p.m. at which time ballots will be tallied and winning teams announced.

‘Humanities Montana’ presentation given
POLSON — On Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. North Lake County Library will present “Home and Honky Tonks: Post WWII Women in Country Music,” with Almeda Bradshaw. This program will be held in the meeting room of the library and is free and open to the public.
Dance at the Elks
POLSON — Calling all of you who love classic country and vintage rock ‘n’ roll music to come and join us at our next dance on Wednesday, Aug 15, from7-10 p.m., at the Elks on Main Street. You can purchase hamburgers at the Elks, before the dance. Tonight we will celebrating August birthdays. The cost of the dance is $5 per person. Come have some fun with us.

‘Souvenir’ wraps up PPP summer season
POLSON — Wrapping up Port Polson Players’ summer season is “Souvenir.” Missoula favorite Alicia Bullock Muth returns to the Polson stage in this musical retelling of the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, an American socialite who was noted as the world’s worst opera singer. All summer theatre shows are presented at Polson’s beautiful theatre on the lake on the Polson golf course – U.S. Hwy. 93, Boettcher Park. This production plays from Aug. 16-26. Summer reading program finale, book sale on tap
POLSON — The North Lake County Library will hold their summer reading program’s grand finale party at 10 a.m. The party includes a prize drawing and an ice cream social. Also, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. the Friends of the Library will hold a book sale in the small meeting room at the library.

POLSON — The North Lake County Public Library will hold “Adulting 101’s” third and final session on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. in the library meeting room. This session will cover the basics of finance and we will talk about travel. We invite your questions. This fun, interactive program is for teens and preteens and is intended to help prepare the future of our nation to go out into the world (mostly) ready to survive as a new adult.
