Mosaic, dedication projects unveiled at Riverside Park
POLSON — “From jumping and fishing at the dock, jumping in the freezing water at the Polar Plunge, to watching fireworks on the Fourth of July, Riverside Park has been a place I have gone my whole life to have fun and I want to give back,” said Cameron Decker, Department Head of Fine Arts at SKC. His project is a tri-panel (triptych) tile mosaic composition that will be installed on the west side of the Riverside restrooms. The panels are the focal point to a concrete pad and benches the City of Polson is installing which will be dedicated to the memory of Officer William Cleveland who died of cancer on Nov. 15, 2015. His badge will be replicated and embedded in the mural, thus connecting the two projects. Please join Cameron, et al., in the unveiling of this beautiful addition to the Polson landscape on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. at Riverside Park.

PHS holds College Fair
POLSON —High school juniors and seniors from Polson, Ronan, Charlo, Two Eagle River School, Mission Valley Christian Academy, and Thompson Falls, along with their parents, are encouraged to attend Polson’s College Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 10–11:30 a.m. in the Polson High School Gymnasium. Approximately 80 representatives from post-secondary institutions in Montana and the Northwest, along with US Military recruiters, will be in attendance with information about academic programs, admission requirements, scholarship opportunities and other crucial data pertinent to students’ post-secondary plans. Ancestor stories told at Museum
POLSON — The Museum of America’s free “Night at the Museum” for September will have Polson’s namesake, David Polson and his daughter, Agnes, back from the grave to tell their story. We will also be visited by the ghosts of other early day Polson residents. We invite the public to share stories of their ancestors. We expect some young folks from Polson High School’s Drama Club to get involved with this program. The public is welcome to share accounts and photos. POLSON — The “Fifth Friday Dinner” will be held on Sept. 29 at Polson Community Church, 1814 First Street E, from 4:30- 6:30 p.m. This event is free as always. Beef stew, corn bread and desserts galore will be served. Be sure to bring a friend.
Church preschool fundraiser held
POLSON — Good Shepherd’s Little Friends Preschool will have a fundraiser yard sale on Friday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m.-1p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 8 a.m.-noon. The fundraiser will take place at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 406 Fourth Ave. E.

POLSON — Polson School Superintendent Rex Weltz will update Polson Chamber members concerning the Polson School District during their October luncheon meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 4. POLSON — The Kiwanis Club meet the first and third Thursday of each month at the KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker on Oct. 5 will be Amy Vaughan, Director of Operations of the Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County. She will talk about the After School Program, services of the club, and projections for building in Ronan and Polson. Gallery presents work of renowned artist through Nov. 11
POLSON — Takes Horse Gallery, 49487 US Highway 93, is proud to present “Art in Autumn,” an exhibition featuring the work of renowned artist John Gawne. A member of the CM Russell Museum’s elite Skull Society, John Gawne’s paintings of the western landscape and Native Americans are shown in some of the most prestigious galleries in the country. This is a unique opportunity see his work, as well as paintings by some of Montana’s and the Northwest’s best artists: John Gawne, David Dragonfly, DG House, Tabby Ivy, John Pepion, Rachel Warner and Shannon Webster. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Oct. 6, from 4-8 p.m. The exhibition will run from Oct. 6-Nov. 11.

Free class on genealogy databases offered
POLSON — North Lake County Public Library is offering a free class on Ancestry. com and HeritageQuest on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. in the library meeting room. The class will cover the basics of these genealogy databases, both of which are made available to the public by the library. HeritageQuest can be accessed from any location using your active library card. Ancestry.com is available for use in the library. Attendees are welcome to bring their own laptops or tablets. Learn about water and microbes
POLSON — “Water and microbes: The tiny engines that keep the world habitable” by Dr. Matthew Church will be Mission Mountain Audubon’s next program on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room. Everyone is welcome. Matt’s talk will explore how we study aquatic microbes and describe some of what we’ve learned about the roles of these tiny organisms in controlling ecosystem health. Dr. Matthew Church is a professor of aquatic microbial ecology at the University of Montana’s Flathead Lake Biological Station.
Transportation committee adjusts routes

Pachyderm Club updated on Montana budget
POLSON — The Lake County Pachyderm Club will meet on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the Polson Rural Fire Dept. building on Regatta Road. Hometown heroes awarded
POLSON — This month’s Resource Roundtable will be SAFE Harbor’s Annual Honoring Ceremony for community members who have stepped forth to help break the cycle of violence. As part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, SAFE Harbor takes nominees from the community for “hometown heroes” who went beyond the call of duty in the last year.
