Pachyderms tackle Suicide prevention
POLSON – Regrettably, suicide is a serious problem in Lake County. No doubt some of these tragedies could be avoided if we knew more about the issue and could recognize some of the warning signs. The public is invited to hear and interact with Roxana Colman-Herak as she discusses the topic of suicide at the meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club, Friday, Sept. 25, at noon. The meeting will be held in the Polson Rural Fire Hall on Regatta Road near the fairgrounds.
In October, Roxana will be teaching a two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training course along with her husband Marty at Salish-Kootenai College.
The Pachyderm Club holds informational meetings the second and fourth Fridays of each month.

Barbecue to benefit motorcycle victims
POLSON — A benefit barbecue, raffle, 50/50 and silent auction for Victor Moldenhauer and Montana “Tana” Bosker will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 3 p.m.-midnight at the Sportspage Bowl and Lounge. Victor and Tana recently sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident. The barbecue dinner, with all the fixin’s, is $10 per plate or $30 per family. A silent auction will be held from 3-8 p.m. and Gladys Friday will perform live music from 8-11 p.m. Donations may be made at Whitefish Credit Union.
Car show on tap at MVCA
POLSON — Mission Valley Christian Academy will hold their first annual car show on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the school. Circle of Trust to meet
POLSON — CSKT-TSSD Circle of Trust, Partners in Suicide Prevention and Intervention will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the third floor Tribal Health Building conference room from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. New staff will be introduced. Old World Deli will provide lunch.
Final plans underway
POLSON – On Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m. the Lake County Republican Central Committee will meet in the sheriff’s conference room in the Polson Rural Fire Dept. building. POLSON –– The Sandpiper Gallery presents the “Fire Within Us” from Aug. 24-Oct. 3. This exhibit features artists Susan Evans (mobiles and calligraphy), Joe Girsch (photography), Jane Goffe (photography), Brigitte Howard (mixed media textiles), Karla Martinsen (2D and 3D paintings), and Rachel Phelps (grass weaving).
Speaker shares Thailand experiences
POLSON — The Kiwanis Club meet the first and third Thursday of each month at the KwaTukNuk Resort, Koostatah room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker on Oct. 1 will be Billie Lee who was in an envoy from The Mansfield Center to Thailand. She will talk about her experience working with tribal elders and the economic development in the small communities of Thailand.

Come see pumpkins weighed
POLSON — On Saturday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in Murdoch’s parking lot the annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off will take place. There will be 25-cent hamburgers and sodas for sale with all proceeds going to Mission Valley Mariners Baseball. The first annual Ranch Hand Competition (a timed obstacle course) will take place, as well as free knife sharpening and a drawing for a Traeger Pellet grill (value $700). There will also be kids' activities from the Boys and Girls Club. Come see if the pumpkin weight record gets broken.
Grammy winner to entertain

POLSON — Providence St. Joseph Medical Center will hold their fourth annual Pinkalicious Ladies Night Out event on Monday, Oct. 5, from 4-7 p.m., at St. Joe’s Hospital. Call 406-883-8402 to reserve a spot for a free mammogram for uninsured women.

Museum highlights motorcycles
POLSON — Miracle of America Museum’s “Night at the Museum,” on Thursday, Oct. 8, will feature “The World’s Fastest Indian,” a feature-length movie followed by a tour of the rare Indian motorcycles in the MOAM collection. Octoberfest celebrated at Masumola Club
POLSON — The Masumola Club will hold an Oktoberfest on Thursday, Oct. 8. Guest speaker will be Gene Johnson, son of Marie Johnson and brother to members Helen McClellan and Lillian Stephenson. Marie fled Russia and settled in this area in the early part of the last century. It’s an amazing story. The Masumola clubhouse sits on land donated by the Johnson family. If your last name ends in A-H bring a hot dish, thematic if you like; I-P a salad; Q-Z a dessert. Doug Wold reminds us to bring our own beer.
