Learn to knit at Polson library through Oct. 30
POLSON — For four Tuesdays in October (9, 16, 23, and 30), North Lake County Public Library is offering four learn-to-knit sessions at 2 p.m. in the library atrium. Library volunteer and “Knitter-Extraordinaire,” Linda Kittle will be available to guide you and answer questions in the process as new knitters learn the beginning steps of casting on, garter and purl stitch, increasing and decreasing and binding off. Needles and yarn for practice will be available. The teapot will be on. Guys and gals, young and old, you can do this.
'Fall Harvest' art show on display in Arlee

Fall Fest, 3K held at Flathead Lake State Park
BIGFORK — Montana State Parks will host the inaugural Fall Fest at Flathead Lake State Park – Wayfarers Unit on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 11 am.-2 p.m. Join us for the first Fall Fest. There will be a 3K Fun Run around the park, followed by a costume contest for kids, dogs, and adults. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and bring leashed dogs on the run. Indigenous film series continues in Ronan
RONAN — The Entertainer Theatre is the site for the annual Indigenous film series. Set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, the film ‘Idaho’s Forgotten War’ profiles the courage and faith of 67 Idaho Kootenai people and the extraordinary Kootenai woman, Amy Trice, who declared war on the United States government in 1974 to save her people.

48th Harvest Dinner planned
POLSON - The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 406 Fourth Ave. E, will hold its 48th annual Harvest Dinner of Swedish meatballs, potatoes, gravy, homemade lefse, salad and dessert from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, in the church fellowship hall. Dinner is $10 per adult, $5 per child under 12 years. Polson students provide dual-school concert
POLSON — A concert will be held on Oct. 25 in the Polson High School auditorium and is for both Polson Middle School and Polson High School. The middle school concert begins at 6 p.m. and the high school concert begins at 7:30 p.m. The choirs are hosting a food drive and donations are appreciated but not expected.
Watch silent movie filmed in part in Montana
POLSON — “Free Night at the Museum” takes place on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Miracle of America Museum, 36094 Memory Lane. The evenings begin at 6:30 p.m. and are free and family-friendly. On Thursday, Oct. 25, the 1926 silent film, partially filmed in Hardin, Montana depicts Rex, “The Devil Horse.” There are enough captions to follow the story line and the movie is 90 minutes long.

Painted pumpkins on display
POLSON — The Kwataqnuk partnered with PBC, First Interstate, Super One Foods and the entire second grade class at Linderman Elementary to make the annual Polson Business Community Pumpkin Painting event happen. All 120 plus painted pumpkins will be on display and judged on Friday, Oct. 26. Judges will be: Shawneen Turner, Shad Hupka, Marilyn Frame, and Evonne O’Neill. First Interstate Bank will provide the first-place prize.

Get a jump-start on holiday shopping
NINEPIPES — Get a jump start on your holiday shopping or birthdays at the holiday bazaar at Ninepipes on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be lots of local craft vendors, artists and a few retail vendors. There is no fee to enter. We will be taking food donations for a local food bank and also items to help with families in need (toothbrushes, deodorant, socks, etc.). Those items will be given to Salish Kootenai College where Tracy McDonald is in charge of helping students in need there.

Quilters to work on 2019 raffle quilt
RONAN - The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold a work day on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the LDS Church in Ronan from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. to work on the 2019 raffle quilt and any other projects you might have going. 4-H shooting sports program begins
RONAN — The 4-H Shooting Sports Air Rifle, Archery and Air Pistol program will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the historic Hort Barn on the Ronan Fairgrounds across from the school tennis courts. A parent or guardian must attend this meeting with the member. Celebrate Halloween with PAT program
POLSON — The Parents as Teachers program of the Lake County Public Health Department, 802 Main Street, is sponsoring a Halloween costume party open to all area parents of children 5 and under, on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 10-11:30 a.m. The party will take place in the department’s conference room. We will decorate pumpkins, create some craft projects, share some healthy Halloween treats and have spooky sensory fun. Home visitors will be on hand with information about the PAT program.
The PAT program is a free, voluntary program that provides twice-monthly home visits with age-appropriate activities for children from birth to age 5, developmental screenings, and information and referrals to area resources. Parents can be enrolled in the PAT program as soon as they are pregnant, which many moms-to-be and dads find to be very helpful, since babies don’t come with a manual.

Support ice arena, brewery museum
POLSON —Join the first annual OctoberFest benefiting the Mission Valley Ice Arena Association and Montana Brewery Museum on Tuesday, Oct. 30. This will be a fun-filled gathering of friends and supporters of the MVIAA, with proceeds to be split between our organization and the Montana Brewery Museum, right here in Polson. Trunk-or-treat in St. Ignatius
ST. IGNATIUS – A trunk-or-treat event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in St. Ignatius. Fun for the whole family is planned and all are welcome. Decorate your trunks and include a carnival style game. A chili and cornbread contest will also be held – vote for your favorite. POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club’s speaker on Thursday, Nov. 1, will be Ann Marie McNeel, director of CASA, a non-profit organization of Lake and Sanders counties. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers advocate for abused and neglected youth who find themselves involved in judicial settings.
