Haunted House held
ST. IGNATIUS — A Haunted House will be held at the Asays’, 62406 Highway 93, as a fundraiser to assist Macao’s entry fee to play “Avalanch Softball.” Times are: Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7-9 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 25, from 7-9 p.m.; and Friday, Oct. 30, from 7-9 p.m. Admission is $4 per person. NAMI presents second film in series
POLSON — On Tuesday, Oct. 27, the National Alliance on Mental Illness will present the movie, “The King’s Speech” in the North Lake County Public Library meeting room at 6:30 p.m. A discussion will be led by Julie Fleck, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Sonya Milheim, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. This is part of a film/discussion series called “Minds Matter” presented during the month of October. Refreshments will be served. All events are free and open to the public.
Support PHS volleyball team

ST. IGNATIUS — Mission Valley United Methodist Church on Post Creek Hill is again hosting their Trunk or Treat for families on Oct. 31. Cars will be in the parking lot with goodies for the children from 4-6 p.m. This is a safe and fun activity for the family.
Big Arm celebrates Halloween with kids’ events
BIG ARM — The Big Arm Association will sponsor a “Charlie Brown Halloween” event at our historic Big Arm School on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 2-4 p.m. There will be games, crafts, snacks, and activities centered on the video, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” Costumes are optional. Church invites all to chili,“trunk-o-treats”
ST. IGNATIUS — A community trunk-o-treat and chili cook-off will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m. at the LDS Church in St. Ignatius. All are welcomed to attend and enjoy the candy and the chili. Feel free to decorate a trunk, truck bed, etc. and pass out candy to all the kids and/or participate in the chili cook-off. ‘Driven to Abstraction’ begins now through Nov. 14
POLSON — On Oct. 5 Sandpiper Art Gallery starts a new month-long show in memory of John Davis entitled “Driven to Abstraction.”
This non-juried show is open to all artists. Artistic interpretation of the theme, in any medium, will be accepted. Miracle of America Museum have 4 or 5 metal sculptures there, one of which is very emotionally charged about drunk driving. The show runs from Oct. 5-Nov. 14.

Quilt Guild plans busy meeting
RONAN — The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Terrace Lake Community Church. Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.; everyone is welcome. We will vote on the theme for the 2017 Quilt Show, so please bring your ideas to share. Methodist Church holds bazaar, luncheon
POLSON — The annual Fall Bazaar and Luncheon at the First United Methodist Church, 301 Sixteenth Ave. E, is on Friday, Nov. 6.
Art, homemade crafts and baked goods will be sold from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Soup and sandwiches, topped off with an apple dumpling and ice cream, will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Proceeds will be used for local and church-wide mission outreach.
Powwow honors veterans, families
PABLO — The 23rd annual Veteran Warrior Society Powwow will be held on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 6-7, in the Joe McDonald Athletic Complex at SKC. Breakfast to benefit Thelma Briney
POLSON — A benefit pancake breakfast for Thelma Mae Briney will be held from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Cherry Valley School. Donations will be accepted at the door.
Thelma is the daughter of Brad and Mandy Briney and the granddaughter of Paul and Kathy Briney. Thelma has been diagnosed with a rare form of children’s cancer and is being treated in Seattle. Her parents and 5-year-old brother will stay with her during her 6-8 month treatment and will be unable to work. Please attend the breakfast or donate to the Thelma Mae Briney fund at First Interstate Bank in Polson. Prayers are greatly appreciated.
Chili, bluegrass music to benefit museum
CHARLO — The cooler weather calls for hot chili and bluegrass music. Come enjoy both at Leon Community Clubhouse on Saturday, Nov. 7. This fundraiser for Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana starts with homemade chili and cornbread being served from 5-7 p.m. and followed by foot-stomping bluegrass music by Left Over Biscuits from 7-9 p.m. Beer and wine are available for purchase. Free suicide prevention seminar offered
POLSON — A free training to help reduce suicide will be offered Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at New Life Christian Center in Polson. Those who attend the full 8-hour training will receive three certifications: Mental Health First Aid Certification, C.A.L.M. Certification (Conversation about Access to Lethal Means Certification), and Question, Persuade, Refer Certification.

Public meeting set for Polson Ice Arena
POLSON — Mission Valley Ice Arena Committee is calling all ice hockey players, curlers, skating enthusiasts, and the general public to a meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Echo Room of the Red Lion Inn to discuss its plans for building a refrigerated ice rink in Polson. A business plan summary, the architectural firm conceptual plan for the Ice Arena, will be on hand for the public to view.
