‘Iron Jawed Angels’ video shows how women got the vote

Properly dispose of prescription drugs during ‘take back’ program
POLSON — In conjunction with “Red Ribbon Week,” Linderman Elementary is encouraging participation in a prescription drug "take back” on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Polson City Hall building. Properly dispose of your unused or expired prescription medications and have a conversation with your child about the affects of drugs and alcohol.
SSC Halloween family event planned
ST. IGNATIUS — A SSC Halloween family event is planned for Oct. 30 between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the St. Ignatius High School Commons. There will be trick-or-treating in the high school, with refreshments and candy for the family along with fun Halloween crafts. A parent or guardian must accompany all children. Costumes are encouraged.

POLSON — North Lake County Public Library hosts a special one-hour story time for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers every Thursday at 10 a.m. and 1p.m. This week's theme is "counting." Annual Haunted House to be not so scary, very scary
RONAN — On both Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, the annual Boys’ and Girls’ Haunted House starts at 5:30 p.m. It’s scheduled to begin with a half hour of not-so-scary lights-on fun and then at 6 p.m., on both days, the lights go off and the haunted house becomes very scary. Thursday’s event runs from 5:30-10 p.m. and Friday’s event goes from 5:30-11 p.m. There is a $3 entrance fee. Goodies will also be for sale. All proceeds go to Ronan’s Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

Spooky fun to help needy children
POLSON — On Halloween night from 4-10 p.m., Rewind Dance Studio at 214 Main Street will hold a haunted-house, a bake sale, and a 50/50 raffle. The fee for children 11 years old and older is $5 and $3 for children 10 years old and younger. A portion of the proceeds will go to local children in need and the Make a Wish Montana Chapter.
Trick-or-treat from trunk to trunk
RONAN — The Ronan LDS Church will hold third annual Halloween “Trunk-Or-Treat and Chili and Cornbread Cook Off” on Thursday, Oct. 31. Everyone is welcome, community friends and families. Car trunks are decorated with a Halloween theme. Bring Halloween treats to pass out as children trick-or-treat from trunk to trunk. Bring your favorite chili and /or cornbread for others to sample. Harvest dinner moves to United Methodist Church
ST. IGNATIUS — The fifth annual harvest dinner will be held Nov. 2, 2013. This is a combined effort hosted by Mission Valley United Methodist Church and Ronan Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mission Mountain Survivors hold benefit for Leni Trahan
POLSON — A chili feed, silent auction, and 50/50 drawing will be held to benefit Leniece “Leni” Trahan. Leni is a 12-year-old seventh grade student at Ronan Middle School, who was diagnosed in June with osteosarcoma, on her left knee (a common bone cancer in children). She had surgery on Sept. 12 and will continue chemotherapy through Jan. 1, 2014. Please join the Mission Mountain Survivors M.C., a N.P.O., on Nov. 2 at the Polson VFW Post #2986, 423 Main St., in the upstairs banquet room. Design meeting for psychiatric facility held
POLSON — Lake County has been awarded $125,000 from the Montana Department of Health and Human Services to plan and design a new six-bed psychiatric stabilization facility. Two community meetings about the program will be held Thursday, Nov. 7. The first meeting will be held from 2-3 p.m. in at the Victor Charlo Theater at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. Another meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Byrnes Conference room at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, 6 Thirteenth Ave. E.
Speaker offers encouragement to businesses
RONAN —Linda McCarthy will be the featured speaker at the monthly Ronan Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Nov. 7 at noon at the Ronan Golf Course. McCarthy, executive director of the Missoula Downtown Association, claims small businesses can survive and thrive even with the arrival of “box stores.” The speaker presentation and a lunch for $8 are open and available to the public. The program is expected to last an hour.
