Montana artists' show at Hangin' Art Gallery through Oct. 24
ARLEE — Karen Goulet, director of the Salish Kootenai Art Department, will be the featured artist at the Killdeer Artisans’ Guild summer show. The show presents new works from Montana artists at Hangin’ Art Gallery in Arlee. The show will remain up until Oct. 24.
History of flags presented
ST. IGNATIUS — The Kuilix chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Highway 93 top of the hill, north of St. Ignatius. The program will be about the history of our American flags, presented by Joann Piazzola, DAR Montana State Officer from Butte. An Italian-style buffet lunch will be served at noon. Horsemen hold Octoberfest Supper
RONAN — The October meeting of the Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with our annual Octoberfest Supper. Members are asked to bring a salad or a dessert. We will have a short meeting afterwards, with a program presented by Mack and Connie Long.

Quilters to bring exchange fabric
RONAN — The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold their October meeting on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Terrace Lake Community Church, 35663 Terrace Lake Road. Please bring ten 1 3/4” x 18” fall colored strips of fabric for an exchange. A pattern will be handed out for you to make a table topper with them. Please bring your show and tell items, and be working on your “Crayola Challenge” project. Don’t lose those crayons. The Thursday quilters are in charge of refreshments. Everyone’s welcome.

Investigate birds, climate change
POLSON — “Birds, Climate Change, and Us” by Amy Cilimburg, a wildlife biologist and the Director of Bird Conservation and Climate Policy for Montana Audubon, will be presented the Mission Mountain Audubon’s program on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room. Everyone is welcome. Amy will take a deeper look into the Audubon report, the largest and most comprehensive examination of birds and climate change ever. Learn about Martin Luther’s life, legacy
RONAN — Pastor Seth Nelson of Faith Lutheran Church will offer a free, three-week course entitled “Martin Luther and his Legacy.” The course will cover the history of Martin Luther’s life and work and the reformation movement, which he started. Movie, smoke jumper artifacts highlighted
POLSON — At the Miracle of America Museum on Thursday, Oct. 9, the 1952 feature length movie “Red Skies of Montana” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. The movie is based on the 1949 tragic Mann Gulch fire. A short tour of the museum’s smoke jumper related artifacts collection will precede the film.

Sedivy to discuss Flathead Lake
POLSON — Heidi Sedivy, Flathead Lakers Education and Outreach Coodinator and Invasive Species Specialist, will be the guest speaker at the Friday, Oct. 10, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club. She will describe the work being done to protect Flathead Lake from invasive species.

Fish and Wildlife Board to hear report

PAT to hold free Halloween event
POLSON — The Parents as Teachers is sponsoring a “Community Connection” event open to all area parents on Friday, Oct. 17, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The lunchtime event takes place in the Public Health Department’s conference room at 802 Main Street.
They will show you how to make some healthy Halloween treats and talk about fun ideas for the holiday. Information about the PAT program and lunch will be provided. A Ninja smoothie maker is the door prize and donated baby and toddler clothes are there to take home.
The PAT program is a free, voluntary program that provides twice monthly home visits with age-appropriate activities for children from birth to age five, developmental screenings, and information and referrals to area resources. Film encourages healing
RONAN — At 1 p.m. on Oct. 19 the Entertainer Cinema will show the Native American film, “Dakota,” where 38 riders retrace the 330-mile route from Lower Brule, South Dakota to Mankato, Minn. on the anniversary of the largest mass execution in US history.

Free admission offered to Lady Bison basketball game
PABLO – Salish Kootenai College Lady Bison will open the basketball season Oct. 19 with a home game at noon at the Joe McDonald gym. The SKC Lady Bison will be hosting Northwest Indian College (NWIC) from Bellingham, Washington.
These two teams faced off last year in the AIHEC Tribal College championship game with the Lady Bison coming out on top capturing their 4th title out of the last 8 seasons. NWIC would like to avenge the loss as both teams prepare to meet up in Crow, Montana at the end of the season for a chance to claim the title of National Tribal College Basketball Champions.
The SKC Lady Bison would like to fill the gym, so free admission is being offered for this game.
