‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

Hunter education classes to begin

RONAN — Hunter Education Classes will be held at Westland Seed in Ronan from 4-6 p.m. on Feb. 18, 19, 20, and 23. The field course is held Saturday, Feb. 21. An additional class will be held for the area in March.

All hunter education classes are free of charge. By state law, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must have completed the Hunter Education Course to buy a hunting license in Montana. To attend class and become certified, students must be at least 11 years old.

All students must register online at fwp.mt.gov, click “education,” for courses. When registering, students will note specific information and guidelines for the course included in the online posting.

Join in fundraising for Journey Be

POLSON — The fifth annual Winter Fest is on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Polson Elks Club Ballroom at 5 p.m. Admission is $10, which includes Montana Backyard Barbeque. Children under 12 years old are free. 

The band Blue Smoke will follow a live auction. There will also be a silent auction, a 50/50 drawing and a basket raffle. Donation auction items are appreciated. This is a fundraiser for Journey Be, a nonprofit organization addressing hunger and homelessness. Veterans’ needs shared at meeting

ST. IGNATIUS — The Kuilix chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the United Methodist Church, Highway 93. POLSON – Polson Foursquare is hosting “Celebrate Recovery 12 Step Program,” a Christ-centered recovery program, on Sunday nights, starting Feb. 22, from 5-8 p.m. This program is based on the Bible for anyone struggling with any hurt, habit, or hang-up.

POLSON — Free technology classes are being offered at North Lake County Public Library in Polson during the month of February. POLSON — Anyone interested in learning about developments up on the Ridgewater properties is invited to attend the meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club on Friday, Feb. 27, at the Polson Rural Fire Department Building on Regatta Road near the Polson fairgrounds. The business meeting begins at noon and adjourns at 1 p.m.

Mike Maddy, owner of the Ridgewater site, and Dennis Duty, a realtor involved with day to day operations, will share news of the hotel under construction, new restaurants, Kalispell Regional Hospital’s clinic, retail stores, and offices that are making Ridgewater the fastest growing area in Polson.

Meet with legislators

POLSON — All interested citizens are invited to meet with Lake County legislators in Polson on Friday, Feb. 27, from 7-9 p.m. in the Community Room of the North Lake County Library, 2 First Ave. E.

Senator Janna Taylor, Representative Greg Hertz and Representative Dan Salomon will be home for spring break from the Montana legislative session. This is an opportunity to meet them face-to-face, hear their report on key issues in the Montana Legislature, and share personal concerns on issues important to Lake County.

MVCA to hold auctions, dinner

POLSON — Mission Valley Christian Academy’s “Staying Alive” disco-themed auction fundraiser and dinner celebration is scheduled for Feb. 28. School supporters and community partners will share their talents and services in celebration of Christian education and for financial support.

Build birdhouses at Pursuit’s family night

ST. IGNATIUS — On Sunday, March 1, Pursuit’s family night is focused on the theme “What a Little Birdie Told Me.” Supper is at 6 p.m. of hot dogs and coleslaw. Supper is followed by an interactive night of assembling birdhouses. The wood parts are already cutout so you can simply screw them together. A local bluebird expert will speak. This would be a great night out for the family.

Stations of the Cross done Lutheran Style through March 25

POLSON — Lenten soup suppers and worship services will be held each Wednesday, Feb. 18-March 25 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. 

Suppers are at 5:30 p.m., followed by worship services at 6:30 p.m. 

“Stations of the Cross Lutheran Style,” will begin in Bethlehem, go to Nazareth and Capernaum, to the Upper Room and the Garden of Gethsemane, the Antonia Fortress and Palace of Caiaphas, ending on Good Friday at Golgotha. RONAN — March 3 is the date for the Mission Mountain Quilt Guild’s next meeting, to be held at the Terrace Lake Community Church, in Ronan. Peg and Char will have a display of Pat Anderson’s quilting books set up for sale by 5:30 p.m. The regular meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a demo and show and tell. Please bring 4 fat quarters to donate for the quilt show fat-quarter basket. When you turn in your fat quarters, your name will be entered in a drawing. We will plan the April Potato Social at this meeting.

Mariners to hold signups

POLSON — The Mission Valley Mariners Legion Baseball will have a team signups on Wednesday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Polson High School auditorium. All new and returning players will receive the player packets, which include all team related information, signup forms and American Legion Baseball requirements and the Mariner team costs.  Baseball players from any of the Reservation communities are encouraged participate.
