‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

RONAN – Pastor Seth Nelson will be leading a course entitled “Spiritual Practices in the Church and in the World” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 and 17. The course will focus on spiritual disciplines that many find helpful in their faith journeys including disciplines like devotional Bible reading, recitation of the Jesus Prayer, how to make and use prayer beads, and more. Library offers free tech classes

POLSON — Free technology classes are being offered at North Lake County Public Library in Polson during the month of February. Space is limited, so please call the library at (406) 883-8225 to register.

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Simple Photo Editing with PicMonkey will be taught from 3-4 p.m. PicMonkey is a free photo editing website. This class will teach you how to crop, adjust color, and add text and other features to your digital photos. Please bring a flash drive with a picture on it for editing, or have access to a photo via your email.

PAT plans playgroup in Arlee

ARLEE — The Parents as Teachers program of the Lake County Public Health Department will sponsor a Playgroup at the Hangin’ Art Gallery in Arlee on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 10-11:30 a.m. Pregnant and parenting moms and their children who are pre-kindergarten age are invited. Dads are invited, as well.

Museum shows film about logging

POLSON — Second Thursdays programs are held each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Miracle of America Museum with free and fun family entertainment. On Feb. 12,  “Timberjack” will be shown, a 1955 movie. Parts of the movie were filmed in Bonner, Polson, Glacier Park, and other parts of  Montana and Idaho. Authentic history of period logging mixed with a Hollywood love and hate story. ST. IGNATIUS — Come one, come all. Our annual “Bingo for Books” is next Thursday, Feb. 12, from 5-6:30 p.m. Please come to enjoy playing bingo at no cost and winning free books.

During this event, the elementary Targeted Enrichment Activities will sell hot dogs, popcorn (generously donated by Gary Dupuis of Showboat Cinema/Entertainment Theatres in Polson and Ronan), and drinks (donated by Jerry Kirschenheiter from Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in Missoula), and sweet treats provided by the TEA students and their families. This year, the children have decided to donate all profits to UNICEF.

Hear about mental health issues

POLSON — The guest speaker for the Lake County Democrats meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 18, will be Megan Bailey, from Sunburst Mental Health Services. Megan will discuss the services available in Lake County, the challenges and successes of program efforts and the current legislative issues. The meeting will be held at the North Lake Public Library in Polson. A social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. with the program starting at 7 p.m. The public is invited.

Hunter education classes to begin

2/18/2015 - 2/23/2015

RONAN — Hunter Education Classes will be held at Westland Seed in Ronan from 4-6 p.m. on Feb. 18, 19, 20, and 23. The field course is held Saturday, Feb. 21. An additional class will be held for the area in March.

All hunter education classes are free of charge. By state law, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must have completed the Hunter Education Course to buy a hunting license in Montana. To attend class and become certified, students must be at least 11 years old.

All students must register online at fwp.mt.gov, click “education,” for courses. When registering, students will note specific information and guidelines for the course included in the online posting.

POLSON — Every month the Polson Chamber invites its members and members of the public to join them during the monthly Support Polson Late Afternoon Social Hour (SPLASH). SPLASH on Thursday, Feb. 19, will be hosted by Polson Health at 106 Ridgewater Drive, from 5-7 p.m.

The February event will include a ribbon cutting for this new facility, a department of Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Polson Health provides primary care and chiropractic care along with a wide range of visiting specialists.

Join in fundraising for Journey Be

POLSON — The fifth annual Winter Fest is on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Polson Elks Club Ballroom at 5 p.m. Admission is $10, which includes Montana Backyard Barbeque. Children under 12 years old are free. 

The band Blue Smoke will follow a live auction. There will also be a silent auction, a 50/50 drawing and a basket raffle. Donation auction items are appreciated. This is a fundraiser for Journey Be, a nonprofit organization addressing hunger and homelessness. Veterans’ needs shared at meeting
