Gallery shows Native American artwork through April 4

Head Start holds book drive

Museum shows war movie
POLSON — Join us at the Miracle of America Museum, 36094 Memory Lane, on April 9, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. We will show “Harry’s War,” a movie about a postal worker who quits his job to fight the IRS. He feels they had unjustly mistreated his Aunt Beverly who owned a military surplus yard. Harry has to use a WWII halftrack, (like the one the museum displays out front), to fight justice. Youth group raises funds for mission
ST. IGNATIUS — Collide in Romania, a youth group from Cornerstone Faith Center in St. Ignatius, will take 13 people to Romania in June to perform mission work. The group is having a yard sale on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, to raise funds for the trip. The sale is at the Cornerstone Faith Center from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. The group is also selling raffle tickets. First prize will win half a beef and half a pig. Second prize is a locally-made homemade quilt. Third prize is a china service for eight that originates from Romania. The tickets are $10 each or three for $25. Mariners dress in black tie
POLSON — The Mariners will dress in black ties to serve you a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings on Saturday, April 11, at the Polson VFW Banquet Hall at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 per person with a no-host bar, a silent auction, raffle, split the pot and door prizes. Award-winning local author to discuss book
POLSON — “Havoc Red – Surviving the Alaska-Siberia Route, 1943” is Carmine “Margo” Mowbray’s newest work of historical fiction. She will be discussing it at the Lake County Republican Women’s monthly meeting, Monday, April 13 at noon at the Polson Rural Fire Hall on Regatta Road near the fairgrounds.
Called “an accurate historical fiction of a fascinating part of WWII” by Missoula historian and publisher Stan Cohen, it is a 230-page softcover about Lend-Lease pilots who flew fighters and bombers from Great Falls to Fairbanks during WWII.
During her research, Mowbray discovered a dark side of the operation, one that has consequences to this day. Mowbray will be signing copies of the book, set in 1943, the coldest winter on record.
Attendees are encouraged to bring brown bag lunches. The social time begins at 11:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at noon.

Little Free Libraries unveiled
POLSON – North Lake County Public Library will unveil four Little Free Libraries for the Polson area. The new Little Free Libraries are small, weatherproof, book housing structures that have been beautifully painted by local artists. They are based on the “take a book, leave a book” concept. The event will take place at the library on Monday, April 13, at 4 p.m. Library Director Marilyn Trosper will launch the project in honor of National Library Week.
