Youth group raises funds for mission
ST. IGNATIUS — Collide in Romania, a youth group from Cornerstone Faith Center in St. Ignatius, will take 13 people to Romania in June to perform mission work. The group is having a yard sale on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, to raise funds for the trip. The sale is at the Cornerstone Faith Center from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. The group is also selling raffle tickets. First prize will win half a beef and half a pig. Second prize is a locally-made homemade quilt. Third prize is a china service for eight that originates from Romania. The tickets are $10 each or three for $25. Mariners dress in black tie
POLSON — The Mariners will dress in black ties to serve you a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings on Saturday, April 11, at the Polson VFW Banquet Hall at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 per person with a no-host bar, a silent auction, raffle, split the pot and door prizes. Sports memorabilia from John Elway, Joe Theisman, “Mean” Joe Greene, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Peyton Manning, Joe Namath and more will be available. All proceeds will benefit the Mission Valley Mariners program.

Award-winning local author to discuss book
POLSON — “Havoc Red – Surviving the Alaska-Siberia Route, 1943” is Carmine “Margo” Mowbray’s newest work of historical fiction. She will be discussing it at the Lake County Republican Women’s monthly meeting, Monday, April 13 at noon at the Polson Rural Fire Hall on Regatta Road near the fairgrounds.
Called “an accurate historical fiction of a fascinating part of WWII” by Missoula historian and publisher Stan Cohen, it is a 230-page softcover about Lend-Lease pilots who flew fighters and bombers from Great Falls to Fairbanks during WWII.
During her research, Mowbray discovered a dark side of the operation, one that has consequences to this day. Mowbray will be signing copies of the book, set in 1943, the coldest winter on record.
Attendees are encouraged to bring brown bag lunches. The social time begins at 11:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at noon.
Fines forgiven for food
POLSON – North Lake County Public Library in Polson is offering its traditional forgiveness of fines during National Library Week, April 13-18. Patrons with overdue items or fines on their cards are encouraged to bring one item of canned or packaged food to the circulation desk for each book/CD/DVD, etc. that is late. Fines will be waived. Little Free Libraries unveiled
POLSON – North Lake County Public Library will unveil four Little Free Libraries for the Polson area. The new Little Free Libraries are small, weatherproof, book housing structures that have been beautifully painted by local artists. They are based on the “take a book, leave a book” concept. The event will take place at the library on Monday, April 13, at 4 p.m. Library Director Marilyn Trosper will launch the project in honor of National Library Week. Show motivates science students
RONAN – On Tuesday, April 14, at 6 p.m. in the Ronan Performing Arts Center the Mr. G Science Show will take place. This is a free presentation so bring the whole family.
Mr. G combines the dynamics of music, lasers, raw eggs, fiber optics, toilet paper and all sorts of other materials with clear explanations to motivate students in science. This is a special opportunity for students, teachers and families to be exposed to unique demonstrations of scientific concepts and captivating phenomena. POLSON — Free technology classes are being offered at North Lake County Public Library in Polson during the month of April. On Wednesday, April 22, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the course, “Up in the Air: What is the Cloud, and How do I Use it?” will be taught. This class will introduce you to the various ways to compute in the Cloud.
Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Apple all have cloud-based software, and this class will show you each one and give you a short overview of how to set up an account and upload your files. Mowbray to present new book to EAA

Carmine Mowbray will be our program presenter and it will be based on her research for her new book “Havoc Red.” The book is a historical work about a WWII hero from Great Falls. Suicide Prevention meeting set
POLSON – Our next Partners in Suicide Prevention and Intervention meeting is on Wednesday, April 22, on the third floor of the Tribal Health Department in Polson. We will start a half hour earlier than normal. The meeting is from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Katharina Werner, Pathway Program Manager from Missoula YWCA, will be doing a Human Trafficking Training. Childhood trauma issues presented

Explore Pacific Island birds right in Polson
POLSON — “Exploring Mountain Birds on Pacific Islands,” by Dr. Chris Filardi, will be the next Mission Mountain Audubon program on Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room.
Filardi’s slide presentation will discuss the role of contemporary ornithological expeditions focused on tropical island birds found in only one place and nowhere else in the world. Filardi is Director of Pacific Programs at the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation with the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
Save date for Kindergarten Round Up
RONAN — The Ronan School District No. 30 Kindergarten Round Up pre-registration for the 2015-16 school year will be held at the Ronan Middle School on Thursday, April 23, from 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. To be kindergarten eligible, a student must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 10, 2015. Bring their birth certificate and immunization record. Registering children will be screened in hearing, speech, vision and school readiness skills. Immunizations will be provided, as needed. Bring your child’s Healthy MT Kids/Medicaid or other health insurance card(s) if this service is required. Registration and screening takes about one hour, so plan accordingly.
