‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

Humanities program offers two presentations

Presentation to address resort tax

POLSON — On Friday, April 8, Jill Southerland will present a PowerPoint presentation on the proposed resort tax. She mentioned the committee is looking at a six-months tax. Come to the meeting to find out the dates the tax will be in effect, what will be taxed, and what might be the tax rate. She will also discuss what projects the tax will be used to fund, e.g. roads, parks, sewer plant, water wells, etc.

‘Paper Tigers’ shown at SKC

PABLO — “Paper Tigers,” the acclaimed documentary film by James Redford, will be shown at the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theater at Salish Kootenai College on Friday, April 15, at 11:30 a.m. Those who arrive early (around 11 a.m.) will receive a complimentary lunch provided by the SKC Psychology Department. The film depicts the dramatic transformation in troubled teens when the staff at their school incorporates the findings from the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study into their education and support services.

Dance to ShoDown at Cowboy Ball

POLSON — The Polson Fairgrounds, Inc. 26th annual Cowboy Ball will be Friday, April 15, under the “big tent” at the Polson Fairgrounds. The fundraising banquet and auction is the main source of funding for the Polson Fairgrounds facility, which does not receive any annual county tax dollars. 

No-host cocktails and a silent auction begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a prime rib dinner buffet at 6:30 p.m., and a live auction at 7:30 p.m. Dancing to ShoDown will take place after the auction. PABLO — On Friday, April 15, the 4-H Student Exchange Group is holding a community dance at the North Crow Clubhouse. Bison Stampede starts in Dixon

DIXON — The annual Bison Stampede 10K, 5K, and 1 mile fun run takes place Saturday, April 16. Late registration is from 8-8:50 a.m. The 10K run begins at 9 a.m. followed by the start of the 5K at 9:30 a.m. The 1-mile fun run begins at 10:15 a.m. Awards will be presented to first, second and third place winners. Father/daughter dance, community dance held

ARLEE —The Brown Building is hosting the second annual Father/Daughter and Community Dance on April 16. The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a special dance for fathers, uncles, grand-fathers to accompany daughters, nieces, granddaughters or a special girl. Of course moms are welcome too. A community dance will follow at 9 p.m. Admission for the night is $10 for adults, $5 for kids twelve years old and under. The Rockpickers will perform live music. IGNATIUS — The Mission Valley United Methodist Church will show the movie “ Paper Tigers” on Saturday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at the Mission Valley United Methodist Church, 70715 Highway 93 (top of Post Creek Hill), followed by a panel discussion led by Teresa Nygaard, Director of The Parenting Place in Missoula. The film depicts the dramatic transformation in troubled teens when the staff at their school incorporates the findings from the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study into their education and support services.

Time for annual fundraiser arrives

CHARLO — The Charlo-Moiese Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual fundraiser on Saturday, April 16. A spaghetti dinner will be served from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Charlo lunchroom and at 7:30 p.m. a live auction will take place with a raffle drawing to follow. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5. You need not be present to win. Raffle items are: queen sized quilt; one-half a pig, cut and wrapped; a 50 inch Sony TV and a 30-06 Vortex Diamond 4-12X40 Scope.
