POLSON – Sandpiper member Heather Holmes will display a multi-media collection of Native American inspired art from art classes she taught with Cherry Valley and Linderman Elementary students including ledger art, totems, masks, mandalas, clay pots and sculptures. POLSON — Sandpiper Gallery with have a non-juried show entitled “The ‘R’ in aRt” from April 6-May 16. The show features rodeos, ranching, railroads, reflections, raptors, rockets, roundups, robots, riding, raccoons, and radios... all things “R.” A reception will be held on April 10 from 5-7 p.m.

RONAN — Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will hold their next monthly meeting on May 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ronan VFW on Round Butte Road. Come see what our organization is all about. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. 

ST. IGNATIUS – The BIA, Flathead Indian Irrigation Project’s semi-annual water user meeting will be held at the Community Center gym on May 5, beginning at 5 p.m. 

POLSON – On Tuesdays in May from 7:30-9 p.m. learn to transform urban lots, homesteads or farms to poly-cultural, abundant, and resilient systems while enhancing ecology and improving your community. This series explains permaculture, sustainable afro-ecology in a series explored at the Montana Co-op, Polson, 410 Main Street. There is no charge for classes but donations are accepted. The May 5 class is: Introduction-Design for Abundance in your backyard or farm including financial opportunities.

RONAN – The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold their next meeting on May 5 at the Terrace Lake Community Church, starting at 6:30 p.m. We’ll have election of officers and our annual “Brown Bag Auction,” so please bring a related item or two for that. Peggy Sloan is the chair for that committee, so if you have questions contact her. The Quilt Show will be held at the K.W. Harvey gym at the end of July. Registration forms are due to Kay Krantz by July 13. Make something for this year’s theme “Twisters,” as well as items for the Country Store. Bring in your completed TLC blocks, four fat-quarters for the raffle basket, and be prepared to purchase $20 of raffle tickets for the quilt raffle. We will finish the ribbons and the bookmarks for the Quilt Show at the meeting. Come and have fun. Everyone is welcome.

RONAN — The general meeting of the Ronan Chamber of Commerce will take place at Allentown on Thursday, May 7, for lunch. Also the County Commissioners will be there to talk about the Lake County Road Department levy that will be sent out by mail ballot June 1. Mike Maddy, developer of the new hotel in Polson, Kalispell Regional Center and holder of  the note on the Mission Mountain Golf Course will be the main speaker. It should be a great meeting.

This event introduces their health and wellness program and youth program. PABLO — Come learn about huckleberries on May 9 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the late Louie Caye Building at Salish Kootenai College. Everyone is invited (especially youth), entry is free, and pizza will be served. Huckleberries are important both culturally and for food security. We’ll start with a talk about why we are starting this project, how huckleberries grow throughout the season, and potential impacts to huckleberries as the climate changes. If you think you might be willing to get more involved and help us research climate change impacts to huckleberries or just want to learn some research skills, after lunch we will train people how to set up trail cameras, collect data on pomology, navigate with GPS units and a compass. POLSON– On Thursday, May 14, Miracle of America Museum will show “To Hell and Back,” a 1955 feature length movie starring Audie Murphy as himself during his service in WWII. This film depicts his true actions, which earned him the distinction of being the most decorated soldier in American history. 

RONAN – Ronan District Library’s theme for the month of May is “True Colors.” On May 14 the stories A Color of his Own and The Mixed up Chameleon lead the way for us to make a cool Chameleon “wheel” that changes colors.

PABLO — Women 4 Wellness will take place on Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. This event is hosted by Center for Prevention and Wellness and will take place at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center at SKC. 

RONAN — University of Montana coaches and staff will again participate in the annual Tana Bockman Memorial Golf for the Griz Tournament on Friday, May 15. The event will be held on the Mission Mountain Golf Course in Ronan. The four-person, 18-hole, co-ed scramble will tee off with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

A pig roast barbecue and prize presentations will take place at 4 p.m. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes.

All proceeds from the tournament go to scholarships for U of M Grizzly student athletes. The Mission Mountain Chapter of the University of Montana Scholarship Association sponsors this event.

YELLOW BAY – The 12th annual Yellow Bay Cherry Blossom Festival will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Yellow Bay Community Clubhouse located on Highway 35 at mile-marker 18. Arts and crafts vendors selling locally produced items are encouraged to apply now for a 10’ x 10’ outdoor space; cost is $15. IGNATIUS — The United Methodist Church will hold a bike rodeo, bike maintenance and exchange workshop on May 17 starting at 3:30 p.m. We will have fun with a safety obstacle course for the kids, a talk about maintenance issues by Nathan Cantlon, (a local bike repairperson and mechanical engineer). We have five bikes for an exchange if your child needs to exchange up for a larger size. We have one newer bike to give as a prize. The day will end with a free supper. This will be a good family-friendly event, so bring your bikes and join us at the parking lot of the United Methodist Church, top of Post Creek Hill on Highway 93.
