Sandpiper Gallery presents new show 6/1 through 7/11

POLSON — Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will be having their monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW on Round Butte Road in Ronan. The program is a Bear Aware film out of Canada and we will have a training session on the proper use of Counter Assault by Scott Kiser.

POLSON – A “Child Passenger Safety” class to be offered June 2–5 at the fairgrounds fire department, 25B Regatta Road, in Polson. Become a certified passenger safety technician and use your new skills to teach parents and caregivers about proper car seat safety for their children. Billy Peterson to perform
FINLEY POINT — 2015 Grammy Hall of Fame Artist Billy Peterson (Bob Dylan — Blood On The Tracks), and Band is appearing at the Finley Point Grill’s newly re-modeled downstairs bar and stage on Friday, June 5, at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
Peterson was a longtime bassist with Steve Miller Band, Ben Sidran and Les Paul and plays on more than 100 albums. He is currently playing with Mick Fleetwood in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.

Check children’s car seats
POLSON — We are having a child passenger safety check station in Walmart’s parking lot on Friday, June 5, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Stop by and have your child car seat checked by certified child passenger safety technicians. Make sure your child is riding in the car seat that is right for his/her age and weight and that it is installed correctly. This check event is the culmination of a CPS class that took place last week here in Polson where new technicians gained hands-on experience under the guidance of CPS instructors.
Donate peanut butter at Don Aadsen Ford from 6/5 to 6/13
RONAN – Don Aadsen Ford, in conjunction with the Ford Focus on Child Hunger campaign, will collect jars of peanut butter to support Ronan Bread Basket’s summer demand for kid-friendly foods during the months when many children lose access to school nutrition programs. Olsen to display work at Ninepipes
CHARLO – The Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana will feature five artists during 2015 with the first featured artist being Charlo artist Olivia Olsen, who teaches art at The Red Poppy in Ronan. Olsen is an accomplished artist in many mediums, and teaches plein air workshops during the summer months. She will exhibit a selection of plein air oil, acrylic and encaustic paintings as well as a 3-D western collage. Stop by to say hello to Olivia and enjoy her art from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

IGNATIUS — Brother and sister Josiah Pettit and Rachael Pettit will perform a piano concert with tunes from Beethoven, Debussy and Chopin on Sunday, June 7 at 4 p.m. at Mission Valley United Methodist Church, 70715 Highway 93 in St. Ignatius. Register for summer reading program
POLSON — The North Lake County Library Summer Reading Program registration begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 8.
The theme of this year’s program is, “Heroes”—with three sub-themes: for children: “Every Hero Has a Story;” for teens: “Unmask;” and for adults: “Escape the Ordinary.” For each benchmark they achieve, they receive a coupon or a prize and a ticket to enter raffle drawings. The raffle will be the final day of the Summer Reading Program.

Support group to help grieving adults
POLSON — Partners In Home Care and Providence St. Joseph Medical Center will host a six-week bereavement support group for adults grieving the death of a loved one. It is recommended that participants wait at least two months after a death before attending a group. Democrats to hold fundraising dinner, auction
RONAN — Lake County Democrats are hosting a fundraiser at the North Crow Clubhouse on Thursday, June 11, beginning with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m. and followed by a spaghetti dinner that costs $25 per adult. The keynote speaker is Nancy Keenan, executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. Proceeds will help support 2016 election activities, including office rental.

Mowbray to share new book
POLSON – On Thursday, June 11, local award-winning writer Carmine Margo Mowbray will share her new work of historical fiction, “Havoc Red – Surviving the Alaska-Siberia Route, 1943,” at the Miracle of America Museum. This novel is set among the Army Air Force’s Seventh Ferrying Group that flew nearly 8,000 fighters and bombers from Great Falls to Fairbanks where Russians flew them on to the front.
