Join ‘Moving for Better Balance’
POLSON — Moving for Better Balance, an evidence-based, adapted Tai Chi class, will be offered by the Area VI Agency on Aging on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11 a.m. for 12 weeks, May 1-July 19. Classes will be held at the Polson Senior Center. The fee is $35 for senior center members, $50 for non-members (they get a membership included), but everything is on a slidingscale. Develop a championship wrestling style
RONAN — Ronan School District will offer a Wrestling Camp from June 21-23 at the Activities Center. POLSON – The Mission Mountain NRA Rodeo will be held at the Polson Fairgrounds, 320 Regatta Road, June 22-23. Youth events including mutton bustin’ and mini bull riding begin at 6:30 p.m. NRA Rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m. NRA events include bareback, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, team roping, tie down toping, ladies and youth breakaway roping and bull riding. Munch up crab at fairgrounds
RONAN — On June 22, the Ronan Area Chamber of Commerce will present “Crab Fest 2018,” which is a benefit for the Bockman (Ronan City) Parks. The dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and will take place at Bockman Park. Tickets are $35 per person,$10 for children 10 years of age and under, or $60 per couple. Participate in youth conference
ARLEE — A “Strengthening Our Families” Youth Conference will be held on June 22 at the Arlee Powwow grounds. The opening and lunch will be served from noon-1 p.m. and guest speaker Thompson Brothers will give a presentation from 1-2:30 p.m. From 2:30-4:30 p.m. there will be breakout sessions with many activities. Personal stories from “Wrapped in Love” – survivors of suicide will take place. Dinner will be served from 6-7 p.m. and a youth dance hosted by Arlee Youth Connections will take place from 8-11 p.m.

Annual Fireman’s Auction held at Old Town Field
ST. IGNATIUS — The St. Ignatius Volunteer Fire Department Fireman’s Auction will take place on Saturday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at the Old Town Field. Concessions begin at that time and include hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw and ice cream. Meals will be served until the end of the auction at approximately 5 p.m. (Purchase a meal and you’re entered in the door prize drawing.) The silent auction starts at 11 a.m.; the live auction starts at noon with raffle drawings and door prizes. Raceway open for family fun
POLSON — Saturday racing at Mission Valley Raceway will have Hobbys, Hornets, Big Sky West Coast late models and Thunderstocks. Skatepark holds free Skate Jam
ST. IGNATIUS — Come join us at the St. Ignatius Skatepark on June 23 for a “Free to the public” Skate Jam hosted by Board of Missoula. The event runs from noon-4 p.m. and is open to all age groups. Activities planned for parents, young children
POLSON — Join the Parents as Teacher Home Visitors as we partner with Youth Services Librarian Kendra during the North Lake County Public Library’s Mother Goose Story Hour at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 25. The theme will be colors and shapes. We’ll have activities, treats, and, of course, Kendra will read us fun books on the topics. Pregnant moms and families with children under the age of 5 are welcome to attend the Parents as Teachers Community Connections. This is a good chance to meet other families with young children, and to learn more about the Parents as Teachers Home Visiting program. We’ll have a drawing for a door prize, and we often give out free books to the children in attendance. Library hosts UofM professor
POLSON — “Antarctic Freshwater Lakes in the World’s Coldest Desert” by Shawn Devlin will be the next educational program of the Mission Mountain Audubon Society on Tuesday, June 26, at 7 p.m. in the Polson library meeting room. Everyone is welcome. Shawn will introduce us to the vibrant benthic oasis of freshwater lakes in the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica. The coldest desert in the world doesn’t sound like a place you might go to study lakes, but that is exactly the place to find some of the most amazing benthic algae in the world. Dr. Shawn Devlin is an Assistant Research Professor with the University of Montana at the Flathead Lake Biological Station.

July 4th Arlee Powwow begins
ARLEE — The 120th annual Arlee Powwow celebration begins Monday, July 2, and ends Sunday, July 8. All events are open to the public and free of charge. Arts, crafts, stick games, dance competitions, Indian and other ethnic foods will be available. Absolutely no alcohol, firearms, unleashed dogs or motorcycles are allowed in the camp area. This year’s dance competition will expand to 31 categories. There will be separate style categories for adults age 40-59. Women and men 60 years and over will be in competition categories of all styles combined. The event takes place on the powwow grounds on Powwow Road in Arlee. Arlee Jocko Valley Museum opens
ARLEE — Two photo exhibits will be center stage at the opening of the Arlee Jocko Valley Museum on July 4th. Troy Felsman’s photo exhibit with biographical notes of Salish Pend d’Oreille ancestors of the Jocko will be on display. The second exhibit will honor the Jocko Valley inductees into the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center. Additionally, there will be a photo montage of Arlee Warriors’ boys basketball back to back state championship team.
The historic church/museum building houses a continuous photo and artifacts display of veteran memorials, homesteaders, and Native Americans. The Arlee Jocko Valley Museum debuts this year’s displays on July 4th from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The museum is open every other Saturday from 2-4 p.m. until Labor Day or by appointment by calling Alvaretta Morin at 406-726-3167.

ARLEE — “Salute to America” is the parade theme for the 65th annual Arlee Fourth of July Parade. Registration will be at Arlee High School entryway, with parade line up beginning in the parking lot. The parade begins at high noon, traveling south on Fyant Street turning West onto Bouch before turning north and returning to the high school via Morigeau street. The parade will not be traveling on Highway 93 due to highway department restrictions. Parade categories consist of: patriotic, clubs and organizations, commercial, western, Indian, vehicle, business, novelty and humorous. Trophies will be awarded at the Arlee Jocko Valley Museum following the parade. The museum will be open on the 4th and throughout the summer from 2-4 p.m. every other Saturday. Summer theatre opens with ‘After the Ball’ through July 22
POLSON —The Port Polson Players’ 2018 summer season, (their 43rd summer season), opens with the musical “After the Ball.” The show features music from the Gay ‘90s through the Roaring ‘20s, along with the title song, parlor tunes, ragtime, cowboy ballads, and Tin Pan Alley favorites.
