Pirates slither past Anaconda to remain perfect

ANACONDA — There was no need for a last-minute comeback for the Pirates this week as Polson had no trouble blowing past the Copperheads in Anaconda Friday. Junior quarterback Vince DiGiallonardo ran for a team-high 89 yards and threw for another 197 as the Pirates picked up a lopsided 41-0 victory. “We started slow but then we started executing our offense, and things started rolling. Our defense played well once again, and it all worked out well,” Pirate head coach Scott Wilson said. “We had success both on the ground and through the air this week. We were able to establish the pass early in the game and that opened up the running game for us later.” ...

Fischer, DiGiallonardo shine on cloudy day in Libby

LIBBY — Two Polson golfers fought their way through wet and slippery conditions to finish at the top of the leaderboard at the Libby Invitational Friday – sort of. While Cody Fischer was awarded first place for his round of 78 at the Cabinet View Golf Course, Lady Pirate freshman Anna DiGiallo...

MISSOULA — Class A runners be aware: The Lady Pirates are for real. Fresh off a third-place finish at the Flathead Invitational in Kallispell, the Lady Pirates cross country team made another strong statement in Missoula this weekend with a 10th-place finish in the Mountain West Classic. LIVINGSTON — The Pirates suffered a pair of 1-0 losses on a road trip through Belgrade and Livingston over the weekend and still haven’t scored a goal in the young season, but their coach says rest assured the goals are coming. After watching his team just miss opportunities in shutout losses ...

Lady Pirates fight Park to scoreless draw

LIVINGSTON — On the heels of a one-sided defeat against Belgrade, the Lady Pirates battled Park to a 0-0 draw to salvage a tie on a two-game road trip where they didn’t score a goal. “It was a battle outright, it was a really good game,” Polson coach Michael Hewston said. “Th...

Youth leads the way for Lady Pirates

KALLISPELL — Youth and inexperience is usually not a good recipe for success, but don’t tell that to the Polson Lady Pirate cross country team. With a team comprised of a lone senior, two juniors and four freshmen runners, the Lady Pirates came away with a third-place finish at the Flathead In...

Chiefs optimistic despite loss to Butte Central

RONAN — Sometimes a final score does not tell the entire story. Surely that was the case Friday evening as the Chiefs put up a good fight but fell to ninth-ranked Butte Central, 31-0. With six players missing due to injury (including two of the team’s top runners), the Chiefs were able to hold...

Pirates come up big again at crunch time

POLSON — Just call them the comeback kids. If the beginning of the season is any indication, opposing teams should never breathe easy if they have a lead against the Polson Pirates, even late in the fourth quarter. With the poise of a veteran team, the Pirates pulled off their second fourth-quart...

Reloaded and ready to go

COLUMBIA FALLS — Some teams rebuild, others reload. While the loss of eight seniors would be a major setback for most high school volleyball teams, someone must have forgotten to tell that to the Polson Lady Pirates. With only four returning players from last year’s state tournament team, the ...

Lady Pirates crush Corvallis 7-0

POLSON — The Lady Pirates righted their ship after a season-opening loss by completely controlling Corvallis in a 7-0 laugher in Polson Friday afternoon. “Momentum. It’s all about momentum. I can’t say enough about it. Fortunately for us today, it went entirely one way,” Pols...
