For the Polson trustees, employees and students, I would like to express my thanks to the Polson community for voting to support the Elementary and High School Building Reserve Levy. Because of your efforts in this first year of the Building Reserve Levy, we will be able to repair one-third of the Polson Middle School roof, replace carpeting, asphalt, replace a section of bleachers at Polson High School and begin to address the Auditorium seating. Additionally, we will be able to leverage other District funds and loans to replace the Cherry Valley boiler and needed classroom space at Linderman.

The net result will be facilities that we can be proud of and welcoming places for students.

Each year, I will report back to the community what we have been able to accomplish through the Building Reserve. We want to invite you to visit our campuses and see what your dollars have purchased. If you haven’t already visited Polson High School, I invite you contact the school and arrange a visit. PHS students are proud of the changes to the high school, especially the changes to the lobby, exterior appearance, new carpeting and lights. Overall, the heating and ventilation have improved immensely for students. This summer with District funds, the gym floor will be resurfaced and the outside track surface replaced. The Board will be making critical decisions this month regarding the boiler at Cherry Valley and classroom space at Linderman. With the loss of the $1.3 million dollar Quality Schools Grant in House Bill 15, the District will be securing a loan to replace the boiler and complete asbestos abatement within the boiler room at a cost of $500,000. We have already replaced the failed water heater with two new 50-gallon water heaters at a cost of $11,266. We had planned to replace registers, controls and improve ventilation. However, we will need to wait to address these issues. At Linderman, the Board will also be deciding how to build two more classroom spaces to accommodate increased enrollment. This too, may be part of a loan that that the District may need to secure.

Again, thank you for investing in Polson School District No. 23. Stay tuned as we address these important facility needs. We hope each and every community member will have the opportunity to see the effect of your tax dollars at work and enjoy the use of Polson School District facilities through a concert, assembly or sporting event.
