Judge James A. Manley sentenced the following individuals Wednesday, Aug. 10:

Joseph Z. Schiel, 33, St. Ignatius, had his sentence for two counts of assault on a peace officer deferred for three years each, to run consecutively, and was credited for 29 days served. Two counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs were dismissed. He was ordered to pay $693.49 in restitution, plus court fines and fees.

According to court documents, on April 1, 2015, a tribal officer and a Lake County Deputy responded to a report of domestic abuse and found Schiel hiding in the bushes. Although Schiel initially did not respond to a request to come out with hands up, he was eventually handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle. When the deputy was talking to the Schiel, Schiel became agitated and angry, kicking the tribal officer in the face. The deputy went to the other side of the vehicle where Schiel flipped around and wrapped his legs around the deputy’s neck, choking the deputy. Schiel was dragged out by the tribal officer, who finally got Schiel under control.

Faith Laurisa Matt, 29, St. Ignatius, had her sentence for criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a felony, deferred for two years.

According to court documents, on July 4, 2014, Matt had meth in her possession.

Jason Albert Courville, 39, Pablo, had his sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol, fourth or subsequent offense, felony, deferred for three years.

According to court documents, Courville was pulled over on Highway 35 in Polson Aug. 23, 2015, for not having taillights. Courville blew a .154 on the Intoxilizer.

Robert Ryan Compean, 22, Othello, Washington, had his sentence for criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a felony, deferred for two years. Judge Manley told Compean he recognized the “hard work you have made to try rehabilitate yourself. You are young. You don't want to be back here over and over again.”

According to court documents, on Oct. 4, 2014, Compean was pulled over for speeding on Highway 93 near Arlee. Methamphetamine was found his possession.
