Lady Pirates prevail over Maidens, 11-2

RONAN – The Polson Lady Pirates high school softball team earned a spot in the Class A state tournament with a road win on Tuesday evening, May 14, against the Ronan Maidens.

The matchup was the second meeting between the two conference rivals this season, and the Lady Pirates won, 11-2, in seven innings. 

In the first inning, the Maidens jumped out to a two run lead on a Macao Jackson home run and an RBI single by Liz Bluemel. The Maidens held the lead until the third inning when the Lady Pirates scored two runs to jump out in front of the Maidens 5-2. 

The Lady Pirates pitching duo of Lauren Vergeront and Katelyne Druyvestein held the Maidens scoreless the rest of the game as Polson bats exploded for an additional six runs. 

At the plate, Paige Noyes led the Lady Pirates going 3-for-4 with two singles, a triple and three RBIs. Josie Caye booked three RBIs for Polson.

In the pitcher circle for the Maidens, Jackson went the distance against 31 Lady Pirate batters, striking out one and walking two. Lady Pirate pitcher Vergeront faced 24 Maiden batters in 5.67 innings, allowing six hits and striking out five.

On Thursday, the Lady Pirates secured the Northwest A conference championship and a number one state tourney seed with a 7-4 win over Columbia Falls. 

The Lady Pirates scored seven runs on 12 hits. Kaylanna DesJarlais and Kobbey Smith each had home runs for the Lady Pirates. The Lady Pirates will be hosting the Class A State Softball Tournament, which starts on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
