Prep wrestlers across the Mission Valley took to the mats over the weekend in hopes of securing a coveted bracket spot in next weekend’s all-class state wrestling tournament at the First Interstate Arena in Billings.

On Friday and Saturday, Ronan High School hosted the Western A Divisional Tournament where wrestlers had to place within the top eight of their respective weight class to qualify for the state tournament, while the top four grapplers earned spots to Billings during the Western B-C Divisional Tournament on Saturday held at the Mission High School in St. Ignatius.

In the Western B-C divisional tournament, Mission/Charlo scored a total 187 team points to nudge out runner-up Superior/Alberton (183.5) for the all-around team championship on Saturday.

“I am really proud of these guys coming out and getting the job done,” said Mission/Charlo coach Lyle Cronk. “It couldn’t get any better for this group of eight seniors than for them to come out of here with a divisional title at home.”

Ten wrestlers finished fourth or better for Mission/Charlo, including individual title champions Isaac DuMontier (145 pounds), Isaiah Allik (170) and Miles Anderson (205).

Also adding top-four finishes for Mission/Charlo were Kody Dillard (third at 103), Isaiah Fields (third at 120), Walker Murphy (second at 126), Robert Dempsey (fourth at 138), Darwin Adams (second at 152), Ethan Diaz (second at 160) and Troy Matt (third at 182).

“We are looking forward to leaving it all on the mat this coming weekend,” said Cronk.

Arlee, which finished in the team standings with 70.5 points, had five top-four finishers: Tyrel Thomas (third at 113), Jace Samsel (fourth at 132), Colt Crawford (third at 145), Demetrix Austin (fourth at 160) and John Matt (fourth at 285).

In Class A, 15 Polson Pirate wrestlers are headed for the state tournament on Saturday. Braedon Illif (fifth at 103 pounds), Gavin Knutson (seventh at 113), Irish Cenicola (eighth at 113), Maysn Cowell (second at 120), Kedrick Baker (second at 126), Kellen Norman (fourth at 132), Tyren Stidham (sixth at 138), Jaren Keene (seventh at 145), Caleb Pierre (sixth at 152), Logan Adler (sixth at 160), Garrett Croft (third at 170), Sean Calahan (eighth at 170), Hunter Pittsley (sixth at 182), Aaron O’Roake (sixth at 205) and Alexander Mathewson (fourth at 285).
