ST. IGNATIUS – With students out of the building, construction crews are still working at the St. Ignatius High School to update the facility.

“The elementary envelope is complete, and the old gym ceiling is currently being replaced,” said St. Ignatius School District Superintendent Jason Sargent. He added that the gym and locker rooms are on schedule. Improvements and construction on the general vocation center began last fall.

In early 2019, voters in the district approved a 30-year $5.6 million bond to fund the improvements and expanded program offerings. The new career and technology center will give students the opportunity to learn vocational skills and the ability to explore a variety of potential career paths from technology to welding and culinary arts, along with healthcare and auto mechanics.

The Bulldog and Lady Bulldog athletic programs will also benefit from the expanded weight room, locker rooms and new larger gymnasium. The anticipated completion date of the project is summer 2021.

Sargent also explained that the school board will be reviewing construction bids received for a 1,970- square-foot building that will house two additional classrooms, located in the old district office space, which is scheduled to be demolished.

“We are very pleased with the progress that everyone is making to complete all the projects,” said Sargent. “We are happy with our contractors and the professionalism that is getting things done here at St. Ignatius schools.”
