Track and Field

Charlo Vikings & Lady Vikings

Carlee Fryberger turned in a sterling performance Tuesday, April 13, for the Charlo High School track and field team during the Darby-Florence invite held at the Corvallis Sports Complex in Corvallis.

Fryberger won four events for the team: the 100 meter with a time of 13 seconds, 200 with a time of 26.24 seconds, 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.6 seconds and the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 50.78 seconds. Lady Viking Aida Cote placed third in the discus and fifth in the 400 meters. Guinevere Contreras finished fourth in the 3200.

For the Vikings, Braydon Zempel placed fifth in both the 100 meter and triple jump, Tucker Love finished fourth in the pole vault and fifth in the javelin and Coyle Nagy picked up fifth-place finishes in both the pole vault and 800-meter race. Also for Charlo, George Ranney placed third in the pole vault, and Henry Ranney finished fifth in the 3200.

During Saturday’s Ronan Dilly Bar Invitational, Fryberger posted first-place finishes in the triple Jump (34-8.75), 400 meter (1:03.6), 200 meter (27.29) and 100 meter (3.16) races. Lady Viking teammate Kyla Tomlin picked up fourth in the javelin and fifth in the pole vault, while Cote placed first in the discus with a throw of 102-8 feet and Contreras finished fifth in the 800 meter.

The Vikings 4x400 relay team placed fifth, while Love placed fourth in the javelin, Nagy finished fifth in the 800 meter, and in the 300 meter race, Kenton Piedalue placed fifth.

Ronan Chiefs & Maidens

The Ronan Chiefs and Maidens had multiple double top-five winners in Saturday’s Ronan Dilly Bar Invitational track and field meet in Ronan.

For the Chiefs, Brant Heiner won the 3200 with a time of 10:07 minutes and placed third in the 1600. Payton Cates placed first in the discus with a throw of 121-5.5 feet and finished second in the high jump. Michael Irvine raced to second-place finishes in both the 1600 and 3200. Zarec Couture jumped to a second-place finish in the triple jump and third in the long jump, while Colter Cornwell placed second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the 110-meter hurdles.

Also for the Chiefs, Dylan Kelch finished third in the shot put, Jesse Richey placed fourth in the discus and in the pole vault Caleb Cheff placed fourth.

The Chiefs’ relay team placed second in the 4x400 and fourth in the 4x400. The Maidens’ relay team finished fifth in both the 4x100 and 4x400 races.

Leina Ulutoa placed second in the triple jump, third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump for the Maidens. With a time of 6:05, Olivia Heiner won the 1600 and placed fourth in the 3200. Rylie Lindquist picked up a second place in the javelin and a fourth in the shot put, while fellow Maiden Jaylea Lunceford nabbed fifth-place finishes in both the discus and shotput.

Also for the Maidens, Lindsey Brooks finished first in the high jump with a measurement of 4 feet 10 inches and Olivia Clairmont placed fourth in the high jump followed by LeReina Cordova in fifth.

Polson Pirates & Lady Pirates

Competing at the Ronan Dilly Bar Invitational on Saturday, Lucas Targerson paced the Polson High School track and field team with three top-five finishes. Targerson raced to a first-place finish in the 100 meter with a time of 11.6 seconds, placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.

Jarrett Wilson placed first with a time of 42.79 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and third place in the high jump. Abel Kimmel placed second in the discus and fifth in the high jump. Mason Sloan placed third in the 3200 and fourth in the 400 meter races. Jonathan Perez finished first in the javelin with a throw of 142-4 feet. JC Steele picked up fifth in the pole vault, Ryan Dupuis nabbed fifth in the 1600, and in the 800 meter, Ryan Dupuis finished second. Drifter Skillicorn placed fourth. The Pirates’ relay team placed second in the 4x100 and third in the 4x400. For the Lady Pirates, Ashtyn Wagner grabbed two first-place wins in both the 800 meters and 3200 meter races. Wagner clocked a time of 2:43.2 in the 800 and a time of 13 minutes flat in the 3200. Adison Carlson placed second in the 3200 and third in the 1600. Taleah Hernandez finished second in the 800 and third in the pole vault.

Rounding out the top-five finishes for the Lady Pirates were Michelle Dale with third in the 300-meter hurdles, Halle Heninger with third in the 3200 and Isabel Seeley placed third in the 800. Maddilyn Huffine placed fourth. The Lady Pirate relay team finished third in both the 4x100 and 4x400.

Mission Bulldogs & Lady Bulldogs

Both Sydney Brander and Layne Spidel booked three top-five finishes during the Ronan Dilly Bar Invitational on Saturday. Brander finished with a jump of 15 feet and 6.75 inches for first in the girls varsity long jump. Brander also placed third in the triple jump and fourth in the 100 meters. 

With a time of 52.79 seconds, Spidel finished first in the 400 meters followed by second in the 200 and fifth place in the long jump. Also for the Bulldogs, Andrew Rush placed first in the 800 with a time of 2:05.1, and in the 1600, he had a time of 4:41. Bryce Umphrey picked up fourth place in the triple jump, and Dustin Mitchell grabbed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. In the 4x400 relay, the Bulldogs placed fifth.  

Arlee Warriors & Scarlets

During the Darby-Florence Invite, held at the Corvallis Sports Complex on Tuesday, April 13, Arlee Scarlet Isabelle Pape posted fourth-place finishes in both the pole vault and high jump, while Warrior Colt Crawford place first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.47 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters. RJ Knoll chipped in with a second-place finish in the pole vault.

The Warriors’ 4x400 relay team placed third, while the Scarlets’4x100 relay team placed fourth.

 

Softball 

Polson Lady Pirates

The Polson Lady Pirates posted a win on Saturday with a 12-0 shutout win over the Libby Lady Loggers. Lady Pirate hurler Katelyne Druyvestein picked up the win in five innings allowing no runs on one hit, striking out 10 Libby batters and walking one. Lexie Orien went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Pirates batters, who scored 12 runs on 12 hits.

Mission-Arlee-Charlo (MAC) Bulldogs

Rheid Crawford and Jerny Crawford each hit a home run during Thursday’s home game against the Libby Lady Loggers. MAC shutout the Lady Loggers 17-0. In five innings, Kooper Page picked up a win, allowing zero runs on one hit, walking two and striking out six. 

MAC exploded for 11 runs in the first inning for a 32-0 win over Troy on the road in five innings Friday night. Page led MAC at the plate going 6-for-6 with four singles, two doubles and six RBIs. Izabel Evans hit a home run and had three RBIs, while Liev Smith had four RBIs on two hits. 

On Saturday, MAC finished out the week with a 14-0 shutout win over the visiting Missoula Loyola Breakers.

Ronan Maidens

On Tuesday, the Libby Lady Loggers slipped past the visiting Ronan Maidens 9-8 in Northwestern A girls softball action. The Maidens collected nine runs on 10 hits.

Hosting the Columbia Falls Wildkats on Thursday, the Maidens came away with a narrow 10-9 win. Ally Mock led the Maidens at the plate going 2-for-4 and three RBIs.

The Maidens smacked four home runs in an 18-5 road win over the Corvallis Lady Blue Devils on Saturday. 

Kiara Sherman had a homer in the second and sixth innings, while Macao Jackson had a dinger in the third inning. Jackson picked up the win going six innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out 10 and walking one. 

 

Tennis

Polson Pirates & Lady Pirates

At Flathead Valley Community College on Thursday, the Polson Lady Pirates came away with a 6-1 win over the Columbia Wildkats, while the Pirates fell in a close 4-3 battle to the Wildcats.

Megan Rost, Sarah Kinzle and  Elizabeth Tolley won girls singles matches for Polson. Trent Wilson and Tate Barentsen also won their boys singles matches. The doubles team Michael Smith and Torrin Ellis nabbed a win for the Pirates, while for the Lady Pirates Berkley Ellis and Qia Harlan, Ara Mercer and Taylor Collinge along with Piper Hoxie and Katelyn Smith each picked up two-set doubles victories. 

Ronan Chiefs & Maidens

The Ronan Maidens fell 3-2 and the Chiefs fell 6-1 to the visiting Corvallis Blue Devils in prep tennis action on Tuesday, April 12. 

Freshman Alyssa PrettyOnTop had the lone girls singles win for Ronan, winning a third-set tie-break 6-7,6-4, 11-9, while junior Dillon PrettyOnTop picked up his third win on the young season for the Chiefs.

In doubles action, Maidens Courtney Bourdon and Skyler Shima battled to a three-set victory.

On Thursday, Ronan hosted the Mission Bulldogs and Bigfork Vikings. The Maidens walked away with a 4-1 win over both Mission and Bigfork, while the Chiefs swept Mission 6-0 and defeated Bigfork 3-1.

Against Mission, Aaliyah Decker, Alyssa PrettyOnTop and Madison Perry picked up single wins, and the doubles team of Courtney Bourdon and Skyler Shima notched a win on the afternoon.

On the boys side of the court, Dillon PrettyOnTop moved to 4-0 on the season with his win. Beau Decker, Larenz Alvarez, Brady Dreasden and double teams of Connor Cornwell and Caden Bourdon; and Vicente Ortega and Joseph Parnell had wins for the Chiefs.

In the late afternoon, against Bigfork, posting wins for the Maidens were single players Skyler Shima, Kaileen Howard, Lainey Racine and doubles team Aaliyah Decker and Alyssa PrettyOnTop. Singles Beau Decker and doubles teams of Connor Cornwell and Vicente Ortega; and Caden Bourdon and Larenz Alvarez booked victories for the Chiefs.

Mission Bulldogs & Lady Bulldogs

In doubles action, on Thursday, against the hosting Ronan Maidens, Lady Bulldogs doubles team of Lainey Racine and Kaileen Howard defeated their Maiden opponents in two sets 6-3, 6-1.

 

Wrestling

Seven Ronan wrestlers were recently selected to wrestle for Team Montana during the AAU national duals held in the first part of April in Iowa.

The Ronan wrestling delegation comprised of middle schoolers River Cote (74-pounds), Saellah Nomee (95-pounds), Ridge Cote (105-pounds), Koda King (130-pounds) and Brady Hout (152- pounds). High school wrestlers Sierra Cote (124-pounds) and Landon Bishop (138-pounds) also were members of the prestigious squad.  

During the two-day competition, each wrestler had the opportunity to wrestle in eight duals against the best wrestling teams in their age brackets from across the country. Ridge Cote, River Cote and Saellah Nomee earned All American titles for winning five matches.
