Library celebrates National Poetry Month
POLSON — April is National Poetry Month which is the largest literary celebration in the world. North Lake County Public Library is celebrating with “Black-Out Poetry.” Millions of readers, students, teachers, librarians, and, of course, poets, mark poetry’s important place in our lives and culture. Drop in anytime in April for an experience creating “Black-Out Poetry!”
Candidates' forum at PHS
The Polson Education Association (PEA) would like to invite the public to a school board candidate’s forum on Wednesday, April 25th at 7 p.m. in the Polson High School Library. There are four school board candidates running for three positions with Polson School District #23. Elks begin ‘Open Mic/ Jam’ events for charities

Visiting author shares passion for history
NINEPIPE – Author Rick Steber is on a quest to share his passion about storytelling during his visit to the Mission Valley April 24-26. Steber has authored over 40 books, won numerous literary awards, and has been the featured speaker at national and international conferences. One of his most recent books, “Red White Black: A True Story of Race and Rodeo” relates the story of Jackson Sundown, and will be the focus of his public presentation at the Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25. Space is limited for this presentation. Learn about Boys and Girls Club plans
POLSON — You are invited to hear a speaker at the Pachyderm meeting from noon – 1 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at the Rural Fire Station off Regatta Road. Amy Vaughan, the director of operations for the Boy and Girls Club, will share updates on what the organization is doing to build capacity and impact through various projects in Lake county. PHS students serve spaghetti, perform play
POLSON — Polson High School students will perform the play, “Reality Stars: Greek Gods Edition” by Jonathon Yukich. At 7 p.m. on April 27 and 28 at the Polson High School Auditorium. The cost is $5 for students and $7 for adults. The Spanish Club will host a spaghetti dinner from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the PHS cafeteria for $5 each or $20 for a family.

Explore the world of birds
BIGFORK — Montana State Parks (stateparks. mt.gov) invites you to explore the world of birds during a ranger-led hike “Birds of a Feather” at Flathead Lake State Park – Wayfarers Unit, 8600 Mt. Hwy 35, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, and at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 3. Meet at the Flathead Lake Ranger Station. Join a ranger on a short 1.5-mile hike to look for birds around the park and learn about some common and interesting species. A bird walk is a great way to get outside, introduce yourself and your family to birding, or refine your skills. A water bottle, sturdy shoes, and weather appropriate clothing are suggested. Binoculars and field guides will be provided. Meet at the Flathead Lake Ranger Station in the Harry Horn Day Use Area. The cost is $4 per person or $10 per family. Join ‘Moving for Better Balance’
POLSON — Moving for Better Balance, an evidence-based, adapted Tai Chi class, will be offered by the Area VI Agency on Aging on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11 a.m. for 12 weeks, May 1-July 19. Lady golfers meet
RONAN — The Mission Mountain Golf Course Ladies League will hold an organizational meeting for the 2018 season at the golf course at 6 p.m. on May 1. New exhibit begins at Sandpiper Gallery through May 11

Quilters hold busy meeting
RONAN — The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will be having their regular monthly meeting at the Terrace Lake Community Church. This month’s meeting is jam packed and will be busy, busy, busy. We will start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, with election of officers followed by presenting your March fabric challenge and show and tell. May is a big month for the Guild, for those of you who are new or are not members yet. May is Brown Bag Auction month, which means you bring anything sewing related in a brown bag. The bag will be auctioned off to raise money. The item can be anything having to do with sewing but have not had time for or don’t need or just don’t want. If it will fit in the bag, we will bid on it. It’s that simple, so bring what you have and let’s have an auction. Make sure to bring your raffle Fat Quarters.

POLSON — Calling all of you who love classic country music to come and join us at our next dance from 7-10 p.m., on Wednesday, May 2, at the Elks on Main Street. Tribal Police Chief speaks to Kiwanis Club
POLSON — Polson Kiwanis Club will meet at noon on Thursday, May 3, downstairs at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Police Chief Craige Couture will be the speaker. He will talk about law enforcement from the perspective of the Tribal Police. He will highlight what additional resources are available to at-risk tribal youth. The public is welcome to attend.

POLSON — On Friday through Sunday, May 4-6, Polson will hold their annual “Clean Up! Green Up!” event. On Friday go the North Lake County Library Atrium Room at 2 First Ave. E from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. to pick up trash bags, gloves and assignment area for cleanup. Refreshments will be available there also. Shred Day will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Glacier Bank, 50510 Highway 93. Two boxes per person are allowed. City of Polson Curbside Pick Up will also take place on Friday, May 4. Have your leaves and branches on the curb by 8 a.m. for “free” pickup. No garbage please.

Two-day yard sale held in Proctor

'UnVariety Show' raises funds for SKC, embraces diversity
POLSON — A bigger, better, and certainly more amazing UnVariety Show 2.0 is heading to Polson on Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. Last year’s event drew more than 200 participants who watched a range of unforgettable performers and then capped the night with a karaoke marathon. Co-hosted by the Salish Kootenai College Spirit of Many Colors, SAFE Harbor and ACLU Montana, it is a night to embrace diversity, celebrate individuality and share in a high level of laughter. This is a night to promote human rights and to embrace “everyone’s value.” The event is also a fundraiser for scholarships at Salish Kootenai College and everyone is welcome. First day of Fort Connah Spring Open House held

Audubon field trip offered
MISSION VALLEY — Flathead Audubon is offering a field trip with Janene Lichtenerg on May 6, from 7:30 a.m.-noon. Of particular interest is the long-billed Curlew. The group will meet north of Polson to explore some of the grassland habitats where we are likely to hear and see curlews. The trip will finish with a short walk at The Nature Conservancy’s Safe Harbor Marsh and Important Bird Area. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and snacks. PABLO — Lake County Democrats and Republican women will co-host a non-partisan judicial candidate forum for the position of District Judge. Candidates participating will be Deborah “Kim” Christopher, Ashley Morigeau and Ben Anciaux. The forum will be held May 8 in the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Performing Arts Center. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. with the forum following at 7 p.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The forum will take the place of the regular Lake County Republican Women’s meeting.
