Editor,

What is this world coming to?

My 4-year-old son started a pumpkin plant this spring, which we put into our garden. He was out in the garden every day watching for the plant to produce. When it did, we discovered a huge pumpkin growing. He was such a proud boy, showing everyone who came to our house on Terrace Lake Road. He had such big plans for it. Sadly, a couple days ago, we discovered the prize-winning pumpkin had vanished and another smaller pumpkin as well. I just don't understand someone stealing a pumpkin out of a garden. What were these people thinking?

I would like whoever was the thief to know that my sweet-hearted little 4-year-old cried for an hour about the event. Not knowing what to say, I tried to console my son. I'm sure it was just some kids goofing off, but to a 4-year-old, it's the end of the world. I really hope the persons who did this will think long and hard about stealing again, and while they may think it is no big deal, it crushed the heart of a 4-year-old boy.
