Editor,

On Jan. 1, 1863 Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

It was on this day, that the black persons of America began their long, arduous struggle to have their personhood recognized, defended, and protected.

As we start this New Year, we are witnessing a movement in our country to finally recognize the personhood of the unborn child. Great advances in medical technology have demonstrated beyond any doubt that personhood begins at the moment of conception.

The citizens of Lake County are joining hundreds of others across the state of Montana in a move to place a personhood amendment on the ballot in November. Please join us in our efforts. The 2,125 babies that were killed by abortion in Montana in the year 2008 had no one to speak for them. Together, we can speak for all future generations of babies in their mothers wombs; thus taking the first step in eventually having their unalienable rights be recognized, protected, and  defended.

Some day, another president will sign a modern day version of the Emancipation Proclamation. What a wonderful day that will be for America.
