Editor,
In October, we attended the Salish Kootenai College Congressional Candidate Debate. The auditorium was decked out with a wonderful free buffet in the lobby area, the stage was set, and cameras filmed for the live audience on Facebook and YouTube. Clearly, this took a lot of planning and many volunteers’ time. We did appreciate their work and warm welcome.
Once seated, we noticed that only two podiums were set up on stage. Democrat candidate Kathleen Williams and Libertarian nominee Elinor Swanson took their places. It was then announced that the Republican incumbent for Montana’s only congressional seat, Greg Gianforte, was not only a no-show but also he had not responded to the invitation, nor had he sent a representative. Personally, I had wondered about this man who beat up a journalist just before the last election. Now, I ponder what respect our sole representative, Gianforte, has for the local residents living in the Mission Valley and/or the Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal people living on the Flathead Indian Reservation?
Since then, our president, who sadly I voted for, has rubber-stamped Gianforte’s behavior. I hope Montanans will prove our president wrong when he says that Montanans don’t say they are sorry when they do the wrong thing because they think it’s fine to be a bully and body slam reporters. Please vote and prove you can’t be bought by expensive ads, please.
