POLSON – The city council meeting was filled with the remarkable generosity of the Polson community.  First, Polson Police Chief and Interim City Manager Wade Nash presented two Special Olympic teams with donation money raised from the Polson Police Tip-A-Cop event hosted at Pizza Hut.

Kris Kelly with the Polson High School Team and Carolynn Wallace with the Flathead Lake Buccaneers, along with local Special Olympic athletes and their families, were on hand to receive the checks from Nash.  Each team was presented a check for $1,052 and will be used for new uniforms for this year’s winter games.

“The level of generosity that our community shows for our athletes is overwhelming,” Nash said. “We volunteer for this event every year, and every year we are able to raise and donate more money. And the commitment and experience these athletes demonstrate through the Special Olympics is nothing short of extraordinary.”

The second act of generosity came when the veterans of Polson united and donated a $750 scholarship to send a Polson police officer to Basic SWAT training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy.

“Time and time again these organizations have supported local Mission Valley law enforcement,” Nash said. “Our veterans have served our country with distinction and they continue to serve our community by their ongoing commitment to our local first responders. They are the only organization in the state of Montana that recognize and award a law enforcement officer, firefighter and emergency medical technician annually for their distinguished service, thank you veterans.”

The donation check was presented to the Nash and Sergeant George Simpson by Marine Corps League Hellroaring Detachment 1041 Commandant Rick Marquart, past commandant John Miller, VFW Fullerton Post 2986 Commander Denny Lockwood and American Legion Hardwick Post 112 Commander Dorothy Goodwin.
