Editor,

Never in my imagination would I have expected the number of people who would step forward and put their name up to be in the Lake County Justice of the Peace race. It reads like a “who’s who in Lake County.” That makes quite a statement, given the tenor of many citizens nationwide toward the political process and those in public service.

There is no doubt that a number of candidates willing to serve in this often-times difficult position is beneficial to the citizens. It certainly can’t be said after the election there weren’t choices.

I was pleased that City Attorney James Raymond felt it was an important enough position that he threw his hat into the ring. Having worked with James for the nine-plus years while with the Polson Police Department, I observed his many qualities plus his excellent ability to deliver sound judgments. I noted on a near daily basis his continuous demand for excellence by our agency, which, of course, made us always try harder — just as it should. His integrity, common sense and ability to communicate clearly along with always in control temperament were strengths I truly admired.

You never had to question where James was coming from as he advised, counseled and became an integral part of not only our organization but all areas of Polson government.

James, a Polson product from day one, graduated Polson High School and then received a prestigious appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Upon graduation, he accepted a commission as an officer in the Marines and chose assignment to a combat branch. He served overseas to include a tour in the first Gulf War.

After his service to our country, he returned to Polson where he and his wife both established professional careers; however, most important in their lives are their three children who always come first — something I truly admire.

James is certainly qualified and well grounded for the position he seeks.

The choices for Justice of the Peace are many on Election Day; however, you will not go wrong casting your vote for James Raymond.
