Unhappy with park, unsightly junkyards

Editor,

I have a daycare and on occasion like to walk the kids to the park and have a picnic and play. But with the lack of garbage cans, there is nowhere to put our garbage. We have to contend with dirty diapers on and around the tables and in the grass. McDonald’s and Subway and Dairy Queen empty bags scattered around the park. The garbage that is distributed around the park makes it unsafe to bring the children.

The lack of bathroom facilities is unsanitary for the children because where do you think they go to the bathroom while enjoying the park? Behind a tree, in the water of the sprayers? Now, that is some place I want my children to play.

On another note, I would like to address the amount of junk vehicles in and around town. I live on Garfield and I try very hard to make my place look nice. I’ve painted, re-roofed my house. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars in the past ten years to have a nice lawn. Re-fenced my yard. But the junkyards that surround my property make it of little use. The house across from me has at any given time 10 to 15 vehicles parked around it. Motorhomes, travel trailers, junk vehicles. It is just plain an eyesore. The neighbor beside me is slowly catching up. The neighbor on the south side has been abandoned and is in the process of repossession, and the grass is three feet high and a fire hazard.

The town needs to do something about this. Where I used to live they passed a beautification ordinance; an ordinance prohibiting junk vehicles and anyone who did not abide by the law was fined and vehicles were towed at their expense. It made a big difference once the law was passed. Thanks for taking the time to read my concerns.
