Editor,

Summer has reached its full glory, bringing fresh crops, hot days and magical Montana sunsets. The water is warm and every weekend provides new adventures, as well as those special local celebrations that mean so much. Hopefully, the season is going well for you and your family.

Over the last few months, those of us working on behalf of the victims and families of domestic abuse, stalking and sexual assault in the community, in addition to providing direct services, have been busy planning for the future. As a result of that planning, some exciting changes are coming about that we wanted to share with you. After a great deal of review and research, we are pleased to announce the merger of the Domestic Violence Education Services Program (DOVES) with SAFE Harbor. Historically, the two agencies have partnered on various programs and served many of the same clients. In order to continue to be successful while making the best use of resources and personnel, the merger was put forth and is now complete.

SAFE Harbor will go forward, providing the same services it has in the past as well as those previously delivered by DOVES. It will continue to serve all of Lake County and the Flathead Reservation with shelter, advocacy, counseling, group therapy, legal assistance, education, outreach, transportation, crisis intervention, a 24-hour a day hotline, household assistance, training, transitional housing and referrals.

Every journey has new roads and uncharted territory to travel. Those travels also come with challenges and successes. It is through these travels that we continue to grow as an organization. SAFE Harbor is committed to providing excellent service and is honored to have the opportunity to continue its work on behalf of the people of the Mission Valley.
