Editor,

Local nonprofit assets in our community seem to have become targets for thieves recently. First the Ronan Library was broken into and the donation jar, containing approximately $400, was stolen. Then, just last Wednesday, Oct. 16, while the volunteer front desk help was closing up for the night, the last couple going through the Miracle of America Museum stole the “Tip Jar” which was attached to a chair. The jar was estimated to hold $400 as well.

The monies taken from these two facilities was given to them out of goodness and generosity, from people who appreciate the value that books and history have to offer all of us. Donations are much needed for these two resources to keep their doors open and remain a vital part of our community. They struggle to keep the lights on and to pay operational costs. They even struggle finding volunteer help.

I am asking that we not let the greedy few steal these assets from us. Please consider stopping by either the Ronan Library or the Miracle of America Museum, check out a book, take a tour and remember to give a generous donation to help replace the stolen cash. Also, if you have any information regarding the thieves who committed these crimes, please call the Lake County Sheriff’s office.
