POLSON — Officers and members of the Marine Corps League Hellroaring Detachment 1041 invite all Lake and Sanders County Eagle and Gold Scouts to their first Eagle and Gold Scouts Recognition Dinner on Feb. 18 at the Polson Fullerton VFW Post 2986. This is an RSVP only event and the deadline is Feb. 10. The cost of the dinner is $5 each or $15 per family of four. The dinner is free for 2016-17 Eagle or Gold Scout recipients. POLSON — Starting on Feb. 18, North Lake County Public Library will host a new program called Weekend Wigglers, featuring books, crafts, games, and fun for all. This one-hour activity for school-aged kids will be held every other Saturday from 2-3 p.m. in the library meeting room. For more information call 406-883-8225.

POLSON — The eighth annual Winter Fest, a fundraiser for Soup’s On, the community kitchen in Polson, will be held at the Elks Club in Polson on Feb. 18. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. Don’t miss song writer and performer Rob Quist with his daughter, Halladay Quist, beginning around 8 p.m. The live auction will feature a leather bound collection of novels by the author Louis L’Amour. Local artists have designed beautifully authentic “Chairity” chairs, unique in their style and medium, to be auctioned as well. Quilter Barbara Smith has donated a grizzly quilt to be raffled off during the event. Please come, bring your friends, family and neighbors. This is a very valuable service to your community and worth supporting.

POLSON — Providence St. Joseph Hospital’s Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention program is a lifestyle change program that starts at 5 p.m. on Feb. 21. It is open to anyone at risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A referral from your provider and a prescreening is required. For more information call 406-883-8454.

POLSON — A screening of “The Sands of Iwo Jima,” starring John Wayne will take place at the Miracle of America Museum on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6:30 p.m. This movie shows the day in 1945 that the U.S. Marines took Mt. Suribachi on the island of Iwo Jima.

POLSON — Keep the winter blues away by escaping with a good book (or seven). The North Lake County Public Library is holding a winter reading program for adults and teens. You can stop into the library beginning Wednesday, Dec. 21, to pick up your Bingo-style reading log or print it from our Facebook page. Successfully complete seven squares on your winter Bingo card and then cards will be entered into a drawing in April. The winter reading program will run from Dec. 21-March 19. POLSON — North Lake County Public Library will host the Montana Conversations program, “American Art and American Democracy: It All Comes Together in Jazz,” with musician Wilbur Rehmann on Wednesday, March 8. The program will be in the meeting room at 5:30 p.m. The presentation is free.

POLSON — The regular monthly meeting of the Polson Rural Fire District Board of Trustees will take place Wednesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Station No. 1 meeting room, 25-B Regatta Road.

POLSON — The Masumola Club meets on Thursday, March 9. The birds are singing in the trees and so should you. So please add the 9th to your social calendar. We gather at 5:40 p.m. with dinner to follow and a brief meeting thereafter. Hosts will provide corned beef and potatoes and carrots. It will be a St. Patrick’s Day theme. POLSON — Tom Bansak, aquatic ecologist and Assistant Director at the Flathead Lake Biological Station, will speak at the Friday, March 10, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club beginning at noon at the Polson Rural Fire Department Building on Regatta Road. The title of his talk is “Shrimp, Salmon, Trout and Mussels: Invasive Seafood Chowder in Flathead Lake.”

POLSON — Want to make sure your fruit trees, shade trees and conifers all thrive this year and every year? Jack Stivers, Montana State University Lake County Extension Agent, and Rick Jennison, arborist, will teach a free tree care and maintenance class through Polson Adult Education at Polson High School, room 104, on March 13, 14, 15 and 16 from 6-8 p.m. The class will deal with understanding what your trees need and what you can do to keep them healthy.
