POLSON — The North Lake County Public Library will hold “Adulting 101’s” third and final session on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. in the library meeting room. This session will cover the basics of finance and we will talk about travel. We invite your questions. This fun, interactive program is for teens and preteens and is intended to help prepare the future of our nation to go out into the world (mostly) ready to survive as a new adult. POLSON — Missoula author Gwen Florio will be at the North Lake County Library on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 5:30 p.m. for a book reading and signing of her latest release: “Silent Hearts.”

POLSON — Come celebrate Gil’s birthday (one day early) with readings from his book, “The Story of the Miracle of America Museum,” beginning at 6:30 p.m. He will be glad to sign his books. Treats and donations are always welcome.

POLSON — All are invited to hear Pachyderm Club speaker, Lori Thibodeau, supervisor for Polson regional office, Adult Probation and Parole, Montana Dept. of Corrections for Aug. 24. She will explain how adult probation and parole fits into the Lake County Justice System, especially with a full jail. Ms. Thibodeau has 20 years of experience with Adult Probation and Parole. POLSON — Linderman Elementary School will host Healthy Kids! Wellness Fair on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event includes elementary school supplies give-away, bicycle and helmet give-away, bicycle safety course, health and dental screenings, water safety, suicide prevention resources and mental health resources.

POLSON — The North Lake County Library will offer a computer class on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 2-3:30 p.m. This class is called “Tablets: What they are & how to use them.” Please call the Library at 406-883-8225 to reserve your spot.

POLSON – Polson Community Church, located at 1814 First Street, E, will serve barbecue chicken, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, dinner rolls and dessert. Dinner will be served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. No offering is expected or accepted. Please come and join us for a wonderful night of food and friendship.

POLSON — The North Lake County Public Library will begin their summer hours on Friday, June 1. They will be open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

POLSON — Polson’s Northwest Accordion Association’s Jam/Dance will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2. Our accordion jams/dances are held on the first Sunday of each month at the Elks ballroom on Main Street. Accordion, guitar, banjo, violin, mandolin, etc., are all welcome to come and play. Singers who sing country or accordion type music are encouraged to come with or without an instrument and to bring a mic and amp if you have them. If you play, you don’t pay, to get in. Admission is $2 for Association members, $3 for non-members and $5 if you would like to become a member of the Association. We do have a great time together, so please come if you can.

POLSON — The Sandpiper Art and Gift Gallery, 306 Main Street, begins their new exhibit, “Where Were You Hiding?” This exhibit runs from Sept. 3-Oct. 12. This is a non-juried show, open to all artists. Artistic interpretation of the theme, in any medium, will be accepted. There is a small entry fee for non-Sandpiper member artists. POLSON — In preparation for this important election year we welcome all Republican and conservative volunteers to the Lake County Republican Central Committee on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to prepare for voter drives, headquarters development and building our team for the 2018 election year. POLSON — A free Zen Meditation class offered at the Yoga- Heart Studio, 314 Main Street, on Wednesdays in September will take place on Sept. 5, 12 and 19 at 6 p.m. The classes will be presented by Zen Priest Zenku, Jerry Smyers. POLSON — Dance at the Elks' Ballroom, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 7-10 p.m. to the Ken’s Country Combo Band. They play a variety of vintage country and rock and roll (pop) tunes that you can vary your dancing to a waltz, one- or two-step, cha-cha, etc. Dress is casual. The valley showed they have an interest in old country/rock and roll, etc., type music by the attendance at Cowboy Country and The Gold Dust Girls dance, held at the Elks a few weeks ago. So, if you want a place to dance, please come and join us on the first and third Wednesday of each month. We provide snacks at 8:30 p.m. during the break. The cover charge is $5 and drinks, soft drinks and water are available for purchase in the bar.

POLSON — Mission Valley Life kicks off their 2018-19 season with a fundraising concert featuring renowned violin virtuoso Wai Mizutani and friends. The event begins at 7 p.m. at New Life Church, 1414 Second Street W. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $15. A reception with refreshments will be held prior to the concert beginning at 6 p.m.

POLSON — The Mission Valley Animal Shelter’s second annual Puppy Party is being held Friday, Sept. 7, at the Red Lion Inn from 6-10 p.m. Finley Point Grill is catering the event. This largest annual fundraiser for MVAS is to raise funds for improvements to the shelter so that it can continue to fulfill its mission to “Save More Lives.” There will be over 100 silent auction items as well as 15-20 live auction items that include a Jamaica vacation, a Whitefish ski package, a handmade cedar kayak, an auto services package, a 14-foot tipi, a Glacier National Park package, valuable art, scenic flights and much, much more. POLSON — The Republican Leadership Institute is traveling around Montana teaching people on the ground to master cutting edge campaign technology, leadership and volunteer networking skills. POLSON — The Mother Goose reading program offered by North Lake County Library remains on Mondays but now begins at 10:30 a.m. Please take note of this new time. The half-hour program is for toddlers (ages 0-3) and their caregivers any Monday the library is open. There are always nursery rhymes and stories galore. The library will be celebrating the Great American Read/PBS program during September and invites you to check out one of the 100 books America will be talking about.

POLSON — The Lake County Republican Women will return from a summer break for their first meeting on Sept. 10, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Polson Rural Fire Department. Women are invited to enjoy social time and the energy of like-minded women looking to influence their world and community for the better.

POLSON — The Lake County Republican Central committee is co-hosting a Get to Know Your Candidates series with the Lake County Pachyderms. On Friday, Sept. 14, from noon-1 p.m., Gale Decker will speak as a candidate for Lake County commissioner. Please come out to meet him and to ask any questions. POLSON — Polson High School’s class of 1968 is having their 50th class reunion in September and would like to invite other classmates and former teachers to join them at their “meet and greet” event on Friday, Sept. 14, at the Polson Senior Citizens’ Center, 504 Third Ave. E, from 4-7 p.m.

POLSON — A Science Activity Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11a.m.-3 p.m at the North Lake County Public Library. The library’s amateur astronomy club is partnering with the Coalition for Public Understanding of Science, or COPUS, which brings together brilliant scientists and organizations dedicated to science from around the globe. This year they’re throwing a science fair at the library and will give you the chance to interact with internationally acclaimed scientists and experts as well as catch up on developments closer to home, such as the work being done through SciNation on the Flathead Reservation and the library’s NASA @ My Library grant. This event will feature a variety of hands-on displays and activities, as well as freebies and swag while supplies last. Want your picture taken on the surface of the Moon? Want to meet the library’s newest telescope, thanks to the Space Science Institute and other N@ML partners? Join us.

POLSON — Lake County High School Rodeo will be held at Polson Fairgrounds Saturday, Sept. 15, starting at 9:30 a.m. Two rodeos will be run that day. Watch as the girls and boys participate in a wide range of rodeo activities: barrels, saddle broncs, goat tying, and breakaway and possibly there will be sports shooting. POLSON — You are invited to a free program at the Miracle of America Museum on Constitution Day, Monday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in the evening. A short tour of Constitution-related exhibits will be given and free pocket constitutions will be available. This will be followed by an entertaining, yet profound feature length 2017 movie, “In Search of Liberty,” in which, a man from the past shows a typical American family using wit, magic, and logic, how our Constitution is under attack and what can be done to save it. POLSON — Please join us for the Community Dance in the ballroom at the Elks on Main Street on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 7-10 p.m. Music is by Ken’s Country Combo playing a variety of vintage country and rock and roll tunes. Snacks during the break at 8:30 p.m. include cocktails and soft drinks for purchase in the bar. Fountain water is also available. On this night we will celebrate individuals who have had or will be having birthdays with a special cake provided. Everyone is welcome. No Elks membership is required. Cover charge for the evening is $5. Come and check us out.

POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Tuesday each month at the KwaTaq-Nuk Resort downstairs in the Koostatah room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker on September 20 will be Tillie Marshall who will talk about Helping Hands and the Mission Valley Has Talent contest. The MVHT is a fundraiser for Helping Hands that raised more than $6,000 this year for the fund, a nonprofit ministry supported by the Mission Valley Ministerial Association. For the 2019 MVHT they are seeking people of talent of all types between the ages of 5 to 95. In 2019 there will be age categories for the performers.
