‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

Computer basics, Microsoft Word

POLSON — Free technology classes are being offered at North Lake County Public Library in Polson during the month of April. On Saturday, April 25, from 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. the library will offer the course, “Computer Basics: Microsoft Word.” This class is for those with little or no experience using Microsoft Word. We will learn Word 2010. The session will teach you how to create a new document, change your font size and color, spell and grammar check, and print and save your document. Dog park cleanup event planned

POLSON – On Saturday, April 25, join Polson dog lovers for a clean up of the Travis Dolphin Off-Leash Dog Park. Most of the work will be concentrated on the dock area, hauling junk metal and glass from the riverbank. Volunteers should meet at 10 a.m. near the dock area. Raffle to benefit Relay for Life

POLSON — Providence St. Joseph Hospital has a raffle to benefit Relay for Life including four 18-hole golf passes with cart; two 18-hole golf passes with cart to Whitefish Lake Golf Club; a pair of Danskos from Jackie M’s Footwear in Polson; and a handmade table doily from a St. Joseph employee. Tickets are $5. The drawing will be held after the Spring Trades Fair on April 25.

Dinner, dessert auction to benefit fire chief

ARLEE — A spaghetti dinner fundraising event will be held Friday, May 1 at 5 p.m. in the Arlee School Cafeteria.

The fundraiser will support the family of Arlee Volunteer Fire Department Chief Don Henderson, who is fighting leukemia.

The dinner cost is a $5 donation per person or $20 per family.

Those who want to contribute beyond the cost of dinner may bring a dessert to auction off in a silent dessert auction.

Port Polson Players schedule Irish play May 8 - 17

POLSON – On Thursday, May 8 through Sunday, May 17, Port Polson Players will present “Shillelagh,” a modern Irish comedy centering on an Irish story of romance and rebellion. Half of the show features traditional Irish tunes; the other half are new songs written by Neal Lewing. A shillelagh is a stick recognized as a symbol of Irishness, used for walking or as a weapon. Curtain time is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. for Sunday matinees. Tickets are $15 for adults and $14 for students and senior citizens. Call (406) 883-9212

ARLEE – Sacred Heart Parish will hold their annual bazaar on Sunday, May 3, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. in the church social hall. There will be Indian tacos, pies, beverages, hot dogs, and more. Many events will take place including: a raffle featuring a handmade quilt, cash prizes and a box of barbecue steaks; door prizes; kids games; a cake walk and more. Spring music festival funds Helping Hands

Quilters list busy events schedule

RONAN – The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold their next meeting on May 5 at the Terrace Lake Community Church, starting at 6:30 p.m. We’ll have election of officers and our annual “Brown Bag Auction,” so please bring a related item or two for that. Peggy Sloan is the chair for that committee, so if you have questions contact her. The Quilt Show will be held at the K.W. Harvey gym at the end of July. Registration forms are due to Kay Krantz by July 13. Make something for this year’s theme “Twisters,” as well as items for the Country Store. Bring in your completed TLC blocks, four fat-quarters for the raffle basket, and be prepared to purchase $20 of raffle tickets for the quilt raffle. We will finish the ribbons and the bookmarks for the Quilt Show at the meeting. Come and have fun. Everyone is welcome.

RONAN — The general meeting of the Ronan Chamber of Commerce will take place at Allentown on Thursday, May 7, for lunch. Also the County Commissioners will be there to talk about the Lake County Road Department levy that will be sent out by mail ballot June 1. Mike Maddy, developer of the new hotel in Polson, Kalispell Regional Center and holder of  the note on the Mission Mountain Golf Course will be the main speaker. It should be a great meeting.
